Dear Tōtara Springs Family

It’s that time of year again, HM Rage preparation is in full swing. This is the 37th year of this youth event and it is going ahead as planned. We are praying that everyone will be able to come and be blessed.

“This epic three-day Christian camp for high schoolers is coming at you again on Queen’s Birthday Weekend. 500+ youth and leaders will join together at Tōtara Springs in Matamata to hear from rad speakers, worship our Lord Jesus, participate in epic games and competitions, and enjoy countless other unforgettable activities. This year’s theme is ‘Origins’, with a focus on 2 Corinthians 5:17.”

Our new staff housing is nearly complete and we have team members who are already itching to move in. Thanks to Bennett Homes and the countless others who have made these houses possible. The project started just before Christmas this past year and has come a long way in a very short time. Well done, what an amazing job!

We also just received consent to start the process of building the new referee’s office for sports camps. This exciting new project will be such a great addition for our sports camp programme and will free up accommodation and storage space which is currently being used for this purpose.

Our Ministry Development Team just visited Auckland and will soon be visiting Tauranga in an effort to facilitate our leaders and interns supporting their local communities in service projects. A huge thank you to Anna Roughton for her work in organising this effort.

If you are interested in helping with the prayer-activation & donor-raising-event opportunities, please contact us. We will then provide you with more information and support.

This month we said goodbye to Tania Gauntlett who has served faithfully at Tōtara Springs over the past 14 years. Tania has been a central part of the Tōtara Springs family, always willing to step in and serve where ever needed and always with a can-do attitude. One of the things we love most about Tania is her infectious smile and bubbly outlook on life.

Her core roles were housekeeping and keeping the gardens at camp looking amazing all year round, however, she did so much more. You would often see her helping with Kids Camp as a camp mum, driving the kid's train, or running preschool programmes at Family Camps.

Tania’s true passion however is gardening. She spent hours of her own time weeding, watering and tending to the gardens, creating spaces where guests could sit and reflect on the beauty of God's creation while they visited Tōtara Springs. Over the years we have heard from many guests saying how lovely the place looks and that is in no small part thanks to Tania and her work. These will be big gardening gloves too fill.

Tania has moved to Tauranga to be closer to her parents in their retirement

We are all very excited to welcome Stephen and Kayla Carter's baby girl to the Tōtara Springs family! She weighed 3.01kgs and was 52cm tall. Welcome sweet little Brielle!

The Interns have hit the ground running after Easter camp, with those in the ministry office helping to plan decorations and some activities for October's Kids Camp and Family Camp happening in Dec/Jan.

The Interns in the instructing team have been doing more training on activities and helping instruct with the incoming groups.

Sports camps have started, with all the interns involved in umpiring and helping to support others in the running of different activities. One of the sports camps required a Quality Living session run by the interns. They spoke on encouragement and why this is important, not only in sport but in life.

We were so thankful for our awesome group of volunteers who came together to support the work of Upper Room Church in Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland)!

We spent the day weeding, pruning and clearing garden beds ready for planting all while enjoying great chats and lots of laughter. We came away from the day with tired bodies and full hearts. The values of His kingdom become 'tangible' and 'touchable' and it was an honor to serve alongside one another!

This garden is being used by the Upper Room as a quiet prayer space where locals can come and take some time out of the hustle and bustle of the city to meet with Jesus. Its produce is also used for various projects including preparing meals for those recovering from hospital visits and helping to feed members of the homeless community. As a leadership team, one of our goals is to see these leaders' days become a space where we can actively participate in our communities, whilst building memories and outworking our faith. We have seen for ourselves the rich opportunities that these kinds of projects can offer. They provide a space where we can build deeper relationships with one another, grow in teamwork and encounter the heart of Jesus for our world. Our next project will be on 18 June, 2022 at Mount Bible Chapel where we'll be helping to transform an after-school care storage room. We welcome anyone who is interested in joining us as we form our own little 'barmy army' of sorts. Regos are now live on our website.
