Dear Families,

Happy Fall! It has been a busy and productive few months in EUSD as we worked to support our three areas of focus this year: instructional supports, wellbeing and equity. I wanted to share a brief update with all of you on our district equity work aligned to our 3 year plan.

As a district, our Equity Committee has been working with staff from the San Diego County Office of Education to provide professional learning opportunities for administrators and teachers on topics such as how to listen and respond to our students with empathy and what our school system can do to better support all children.

In October, we began our site-based professional learning sessions for all educators at every school and department, so that they can better support all students and ensure that all students have what they need to succeed. We work hard to make sure teachers are well prepared to discuss topics from multiple perspectives within the classroom. The focus of our learning centers around Identity, Joy, and Representation, as we have heard from current and past students the importance of seeing themselves within our curriculum, policies and practices. We remain committed to examining what we do and how we do it so that all students feel safe, supported, and have the opportunity to attain the educational success they are capable of achieving.

We invite all EUSD families to join us for a webinar that will provide an overview of the district Equity work this year. We will be sharing our Board Policy, our District Equity Plan, and the focus of this year’s professional learning for all EUSD staff. The webinar will be recorded for future viewing if you are unable to attend this session. This will be the first in a series of webinars.

Symptomatic Testing for COVID-19 at Farm Lab

We are pleased to share that we are now able to provide PCR tests for EUSD students and staff experiencing symptoms. The requirement to return to work and school is a negative PCR test and lessening of symptoms (including no fever without medication). Testing for symptomatic individuals is available from 1:00 - 3:45 p.m. at EUSD Farm Lab located at 441 Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas, 92024.

In order to use Farm Lab testing, the Primary Health Consent Form must be completed prior to arriving at the site. Click here to access the Primary.Health consent form, if you have not previously completed the form. Please note, currently the lab utilized by CDPH contracted by the district provides results within 48-72 hours. We are aware that County testing sites (such as CSUSM) are providing a faster turnaround time (approximately 24 hours). We are hopeful that results return times will reduce as the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) refines their systems.

For any further questions regarding student testing, please contact Yvonne Gerber at (760) 944-4300, ext. 1195.

Update from Child Nutrition Services (CNS)

Child Nutrition Services is providing more meals than ever before, serving nearly 3000 student lunches a day across the district. The incredible jump in student meal participation at EUSD and across the nation as a whole has unfortunately resulted in significant food supply chain issues and shortages.

Due to the nationwide food shortage, EUSD Child Nutrition is having difficulty acquiring the products necessary to provide many of the menu items needed to support our published menus. As a result, we are having to make last minute menu changes when the food items we order are simply not delivered. We are working with our food distributors on a daily basis to minimize food shortages, however our distributors and manufacturers are also experiencing the same supply and labor shortages.

EUSD Child Nutrition Services takes pride in the scratch-made, locally sourced meals that we provide to students. Having to make last minute menu changes is the last thing we want to do, especially when students so often look forward to specific menu choices. Our dedicated staff is working hard on a daily basis to ensure all students receive a nutritious lunch, although we recognize it may not be their first menu choice. Our menus are subject to change and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. When daily menus change, school office staff are informed and the menus are updated online via We encourage parents to download the mobile app for up-to-date menu and nutrition information.

Thank you so much for your patience and support during this unprecedented time. Even with the food and labor shortages affecting all aspects of the food industry, Child Nutrition Services continues to focus on serving high quality meals to the students at EUSD.
