December Parent Newsletter
Riverbend Middle School
From the desk of Mr. Dempsey
Riverbend Families,
I hope you all had a peaceful and healthy Thanksgiving break. First off, I'd like to apologize for the delay in sending out report cards. We had a bit of a technical issue with sending them out before break. Thank you for your patience and understanding. As we begin 2nd Trimester, our focus is on "Responsibility". We recognized a number of students last trimester for "Respect", and we will celebrate a new group of Riverbend students who consistently demonstrate responsibility this trimester. We hope you'll partner with us in encouraging your student to make responsible choices as the year goes on:
- Keeping up with assignments and weekly grade checks
- Regular daily attendance
- Adhering to building and classroom expectations
- Keeping our building and campus clean
We have lots of exciting things in store for our students and we want to celebrate their success with every opportunity we get. Thank you for supporting our efforts and please feel free to reach out with questions or concerns anytime.
Sincerely,
Todd Dempsey, Principal

The Counselor Corner
Mrs. Jess Fletcher will be returning to the counseling department following the birth of her child. Mrs. Fletcher is a Licensed Professional Counselor who serves as a tier 3 interventionist. She supports students in the areas of social/emotional wellness and responsive student services. This year, she will also be working with students at Zitzman. Mrs. Fletcher looks forward to serving Riverbend and Zitzman students and their families.
Just after Thanksgiving break, counselors sat down with each Riverbend student for individual "minute meetings". Students were asked to evaluate themselves in the areas of academics, social skills, emotional regulation, and behavior. Results from these meetings will help us determine additional interventions that the counseling department can implement in order to help students. If you have concerns about your child's progress in any of these areas, please contact the school counselors to discuss available resources.
On December 19th, students currently enrolled in "PE B" and "Athletic Development B" will attend a presentation that focuses on suicide prevention. The presentation will be delivered by CHADS - Communities Healing Adolescent Depression and Suicide. The state of Missouri requires schools to offer age-appropriate suicide prevention education to all students in grades 5 and above. More information regarding these presentations will be shared with families as the date approaches. This information will also include an opt-out form should you decide that you would not like your child to attend. If you have additional questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out.
