Important Reminders:

Please see the newsletter below from the nurse. Please call or email your child's absence by 9am to atreat@usd497.org or 785-832-5660. Please remember we need a doctor's note if your child is absent three or more consecutive days.

All parents/guardians must come into the school to sign out their child if checking them out during school hours. This was our policy prior to Covid and we are now following procedure again.

Traffic Flow Expectations

Please be reminded of our traffic expectations for arrival and pick up.
Traffic Plan
Traffic Map
It is the expectation that those using the circle drive abide by the traffic flow expectations:
Once drivers are given the signal to move up in the circle drive, it is the expectation that all cars move forward with the traffic and/or up to the south end, orange cones before dropping off or picking up your child.
All students exit and enter their car on the curb side.
Follow the directions of the crossing guard at all times.
As a reminder, students eating breakfast should arrive at school promptly at 7:45. Breakfast is not served after 8:00.
Thank you so much for your support and cooperation!

Friend of Education - Angela Wilson

Each year, schools are asked to nominate one outstanding volunteer / supporter of our school. As you can imagine this is a tough decision due to the number of parents/guardians who do so much for our school! We are so appreciative of the unwavering support we receive from our community. However, this year our staff would like to recognize Angela Wilson! Angela has been our PTO president through a couple of tough years for our school. She has had to navigate Covid rules while also trying to plan events that bring our community together. Her creativity and thinking outside the "Covid" box has helped to provide a sense of continuity for our staff and students. We are so thankful that she continued her presidency for a second year!

Angela will be honored at the Friends of Education Ceremony set for November 16th at the District office. Congratulations Angela! Thank you for everything you do for our school!

Hot Spots Available for Families

In addition to checking out hotspots to families who need internet access in the home, the IT Department also wants to share a federal resource available to any family needing internet access. Families who are interested can check their eligibility and apply here: https://www.fcc.gov/acp . Eligible households can receive a discount of up to $30 per month toward internet service.

Meals at Deerfield

Here are a few reminders about breakfast and lunch at Deerfield.

Breakfast Time - 7:45am-8:00am

  • If your child is eating breakfast at school they need to be at school by 7:45 when the doors open so they have plenty of time to eat before the 8:00 bell rings and school begins.
  • We stop serving breakfast at 8:00 sharp! If your child is not in the breakfast line by that time they will not be able to get a breakfast.
  • All breakfast eaters are expected to be finished eating no later than 8:05. If you would like your child to eat breakfast at school they should be here as close to 7:45 as possible, so they have plenty of time to eat.

Extras at Lunch

Students are allowed to get an extra main dish during lunch, but MUST have money on their account to do so. Student on free/reduced lunch are allowed one complete meal. If wanting seconds, they too must have money on their account. All extras are at a charge.

Soda Pop at Lunch

We have noticed students bring soda pop in their lunch. We do not allow students to drink soda pop in the lunchroom.

Equity Resource Guide

The Equity Resource guide was created by the Deerfield Equity team in the hopes that families can find resources, events and additional information to support our vision of all students attaining an equitable education. Expect 3 more guides to be sent out this year.

Big picture

Changemaker of the week:

Our goal is for our students to see themselves in our change makers and to also learn that they can do anything they put their mind to. Another goal is for our students to see people who are unfamiliar to them, to grow in empathy, and push for justice for the inequalities that marginalized communities face.

10/31- 11/4- Ruth Asawa

11/7-11/11- Brain Hanni

11/14- 11/18- Mikaila Ulmer

Deerfield Expectations

Below you will find our Deerfield Expectations for following our 3R's - Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Ready to Learn. Students will be taught our expectations within the first few weeks of school. Please help reinforce these expectations with your student(s).
