Introduction
In the last decade of the nineteenth century, Londons population expanded to four million which in turn created a high demand for cheap housing. This was the start of the London slums (a squalid and overcrowded urban street or district inhabited by poor people.) caused initially by rapid population growth and industrialization.
What is the Victorian Era?
The Victorian era was between 1837-1901. It was when Queen Victoria was in power. It was time where Britain population doubled. It was also the time period in which confederation was formed.
Living in the Victorian era.
This era was huge in population growth and immigration. It was also a time of economic boom where living standards where being raised. It was also a time with no epidemics or pandemics which decreased the mortality rate. The culture included some of the most well known books today like A Tale of Two Cities by Richard Dickens. This the era where they railroad started to be produced and where the idea of telephones where first put to action. Modern sports that we use today where starting to be used. Football was in invented in 1888. Medically wise this is when the most common anesthetic ,Nitrous oxide, was produced (the gas that they put you under when you get your wisdom teeth removed.)
Crime was present with child labour and prostitution being the high offenders.
