ROGERS MIDDLE SCHOOL
MARCH 2022 NEWSLETTER
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Hello Rogers’ families!!
As we come to the mid-year point, I want to remind you of the promises I made to the Rogers Middle School families and the community! I continue to be excited to sit in this role as your Principal. Together, we will make Rogers even greater!!
To the Rogers Middle School, our Families, and our Community:
Greetings, I come to you with sheer excitement!!
As the new Principal of Rogers Middle School, I first and foremost want to share how honored I am to have the opportunity to inspire, motivate, and encourage every member in this district and community toward continued excellence. West Irondequoit Central School District, and Rogers Middle School, capture the essence of what it means to be a life-long learner, by always pushing beyond the expectations, overcoming challenges, creating a family environment for staff, students, and community members, and ensuring that learning is at the core of every decision made. Having the opportunity to serve on the leadership team at West Irondequoit Central School District, I will bring passion, motivation, and an unending belief that all children can learn to the table. I will continue to push Rogers Middle School by growing every student and staff member, every day, and making it a priority to meet each person’s individual needs. I will work to ensure the curriculum and instruction we are providing is the best we can deliver to our students to include cultural responsiveness and proficiency. I will ensure that all students receive access, opportunity and are included no matter their background, identification, or ethnicity. I will work with my team to involve all stakeholders: students, staff, families, and the community. To get the work done, we must do it together! Let’s bring Rogers Middle School from good to great, great to excellent, from excellent to extraordinary!
Thank you for again allowing me to serve this community!!
Love and Blessings,
Dr. Richards

HONOR ROLL/EFFORT AWARDS FOR QUARTER 2
BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATIONS!
Across our K-6 buildings, students have engaged in a variety of learning experiences to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the contributions, achievements, and history of the Black Experience in the United States. Here are just a few highlights of the wonderful and engaging learning occurring across our schools!
In Colebrook, our Teacher Leader led an “Agents of Change” unit which highlighted activism, social justice, and the power of voice, all from the perspective of kids! They read stories that highlight these themes and engaged in discussion together. The whole school then contributed to posters, sharing how they can use their voice.
Many Briarwood second-graders took to the morning announcements daily and used their own voices to share details about different figures in Black History, such as former President Barack Obama.
Listwood second-graders learned about different types of music each week and at the end of the month, they will have a community meeting to share what they liked and what they learned. At Rogers Middle School, sixth-grade Humanities teachers engaged students in a study of Harlem Renaissance literature and music alongside a study of ancient African kingdoms and their achievements and contributions.
Additionally, our K-12 libraries displayed a wide variety of books for students to explore, including fiction, poetry, non-fiction, history, and more!
