Ebert Updates
Dear UMAC parents,
Over the next few days I will be meeting with each student individually to discuss and create MAP goals for the school year. It is very important for the students to take an active role in setting their own academic goals and this process teaches them to take ownership for their learning. I will be sharing their fall scores and together we will set specific goals for the school year based on the results in both math and reading. I will also be sharing these goals with you during our parent/ teacher conference later in October.
If you have multiple children at Woods Creek you should have seen a yellow conference form come home last Thursday. If you have not already done, so please fill out and return to school in order to set and confirm our conference time.
Sincerely,
April Ebert
Shared Reading
Writing
We had a fun week in writing learning how to find that “just right tone” for our writing. By evaluating our purpose for writing we are able to pick the mood/tone that we want to convey in our writing. We continued to work on our owl brochures for our expository project. Our final brochures are due by next Friday, Oct. 7th.
Math
New Friends: Students will be bringing home their first chapter assessment today. We spent time today discussing goals for the upcoming chapter as we dive into multiplication with whole numbers. Please ask your learner how these goals will help them as we tackle these new concepts.
Old Friends: Students will be bringing home their unit 1 assessments today. Please look over the test, sign, and return to school with your child. This week we will dive into decimals. Students will understand how to change fractions into decimals. In this unit it will be important for students to understand place value. We will also review how to write numbers in different ways (standard form, word form, expanded form).
