March Merriment from Room 203
Mrs. Ryberg's 2nd Grade
Happy Spring?
The weather is, once again, playing tricks on us, but we are back to work!
IN CLASS...
We have been working hard! Here is what each subject area has brought us:
MATH: We are reviewing tougher 3rd quarter concepts including telling time and addition and subtraction with regrouping. After break we will tackle MONEY!
SOCIAL STUDIES: We are currently working on the Pirate Principle for March, which is Citizenship. We have been discussing the traits of a good citizen as well as something we, as a class, can do as a citizenship project for Hillcrest.
LANGUAGE ARTS-READING: We have been working on asking questions as well as creating visual images when reading.

LANGUAGE ARTS-WRITING: Currently we are exploring where to get ideas from for writing. Additionally, the class continues to work on our Friday letters home...remember to respond to your student when possible. We will put together a keepsake book of the letters in May.
SPELLING: This week we will be exploring contractions in conjunction with spelling. Remind students to look for the missing letters for the apostrophe.
WE ARE GOING ON A BOOK ADVENTURE!
Hillcrest is currently participating in a reading program in conjunction with Sylvan Learning Centers. The program, entitled Book Adventure, is similar to the Scholastic program we previously have had. Earning prizes is as simple as reading a book from the list of over 8,000 and taking a quiz. Correct answers equal points and points equal fun prizes. Students are just learning their logins and practicing in class and some have even redeemed prizes! The cool part is your kiddo can keep testing at home...just log on to http://www.bookadventure.com . What a great way to motivate your student over break!
