“The moment you want to give up, is the exact moment you need to keep going. That’s where your strength lies. That’s where positive change happens.”
Tough times are going to happen and struggles will get you down sometimes, but you cannot stay down. Ask for help if you need it… you got this!

P.S. I Love You
From http://psiloveyouday.net/: “P.S. I Love You Day is held every second Friday of February, making our next celebration on February 11th, 2022. On this day we ask everyone to wear purple to stand up against bullying, help end depression, and ultimately prevent suicide. We hope that on this day you walk around your community, school, or work office and see a sea of purple. We hope that you hear nothing but positive messages that make you feel special, loved, and remind you that you are never alone.”
At Cortland this year, our PS I Love You group has been very active! We did a pre-sale of t-shirts in December with an original goal of selling 30. We surpassed that goal 5 times over!! Throughout the month of January, several members stopped in after school to tie-dye over 150 shirts for our cause. Graph-Tex graciously provided our group the opportunity to use their facilities to screen print our logo on them. It will be a fantastic opportunity to learn about a local organization and deepen our connection to the Cortland community.
All week long, from February 7-11, we will have activities to involve all students in grades 7-12 including a “Take what you need” mural, kindness grams, a bracelet sale with words of affirmation, and so much more. We hope to implement a 15 day Kindness Challenge sponsored by ThinkKindness.org and host a sneaker collection to send to kids overseas who cannot attend school without a pair. We can make this world a better place “One Step at a Time”.
Please help us fill the world with kindness and love! Wear purple on February 11 to show your support of our mission!
French News
In French 1 students have learned so much! They can say their names, ask others, give their birthdate, tell time in French and most recently, they have learned to discuss their classes and school supplies.
In French 2 students have finished learning about reflexive verbs and have begun learning vocabulary dealing with chores and responsibilities around the house.
In French 3 students have written a “fractured fairy tale” to practice using 2 past tenses in the same composition. They had a lot of fun altering known fairy tales to fit a narrative of their choosing and some even created their own!
In French 5 students have sadly finished their final semester in French. We read The Little Prince together and watched/discussed two films based on the book in our last weeks together. I hope to see them around for the next year and a half and I hope that they choose to do the NYS Seal of Biliteracy next year! Vous me manquerez beaucoup!!
Studio Art
Studio in Art students are busy creating paper mache and plaster sculptures. The only “rules” are that they had to make a creature of some kind…human or animal, real or imagined. Everything from elephants to birds to the Sphinx to dinosaurs and lots of creatures that don’t even have names are coming to life in the studio and it’s pretty exciting to see.
Drawing and Painting students are finishing up their painted musical instruments and will be sharing a slide presentation with their classmates to teach them about the artist they’ve studied and are emulating.

Library News
The 9-12 grade Battle of the Books team is looking for a few more students to participate. Battle of the books is an opportunity for students to read books and come together to demonstrate their abilities and to test their knowledge of the books they have read. The team will be competing against other teams in our region. If you like to read and want to be a part of the battle team please email or stop in and see Mrs. Hay in the library.
