CHS & Class Act Board Report
August 2020
My First Month...
My first month as the principal of the high school has been everything I expected. It is challenging, engaging, but most of all rewarding. It is an honor to work with all the people in this district. We are building something no one has ever had to do before. Watching this plan come together has been special to watch. Every person in each department and building has worked together in a coordinated effort to make this happen. I know we are going to meet further challenges but we already proved that we are up to the task to come up with solutions that will keep us moving forward. I am so proud of all our staff as I know they have put a great deal of energy and time into our plan. We are all so excited to get our students back in our classrooms and to lead them once again!
New Staff Members
This year Chequamegon High School welcomes four new teachers. Tammy Olson will be teaching math and enters her 30th year in education. She came to us from the Gilman School District where she taught math and science. Tammy also coached volleyball for 22 years qualifying 2 teams to the state tournament. Melissa Dupke will be teaching science and enters her 24th year in education. Melissa last taught in the Denmark School District and served as the lead teacher in the Charter School. Melissa coached basketball, softball, track, and cross country. Ashley Genslek will be teaching special education and this will be her first year serving in that role. Last year she was a member of the volleyball coaching staff at CHS. Chris Kleist will be teaching special education and will also be starting his first year as an educator. He is no stranger to the district as he has worked in the district for the past 3 years. He served as a paraeducator for the first 2 years and completed his student teaching and internship in his third year. We are very excited to have them both!
Northcentral Technical College Dual Credit Certificate
Congratulations to our high school students for their accomplishments at NTC this past 2019-2020 school year! The amazing partnership between NTC and CHS saved $182,014.95 in tuition during the 2019-2020 academic year. 161 students attempted 1209 college credits. Chequamegon High School offers more credits than any other Marawood Conference school.
Big Shout Out to CHS Reentry Team!
Paula Zwicke, Sami Schemberger, Juliet Corbett, Kristen Kirch, Kelly Patterson, and Jess Folstad collaborated together over the past 5 weeks and helped create a reentry plan that contains procedures and schedules that will help guide us through the school year. The plan will allow us to transition smoothly through any scenario we face this year. We are flexible in knowing that once students enter our building we may have to make minor adjustments to address unforeseen challenges.
CHS Summer School
Summer school ended the first week of August and was a huge success considering the uncertainty of what we faced going into the month of June. As expected, the teachers that participated did a fantastic job! Our teachers were also afforded the opportunity to practice the procedures we put in our CHS Reentry plan. The students that enrolled did an exceptional job of cooperating and met expectations. We look forward to planning this again next year.
Bill Weiler training teachers to be trainers of how to use the new technology carts that he and Chad put together. We are all in this together and as you can see it was a total team effort.
The CHS Reentry Team created Teach To's that all our students will need to learn in our new "normal" . We also felt our teachers needed to learn these important procedures before we can teach our students. Our reentry team modeled expectations in the cafeteria, auditorium, hallway, classroom, and exiting/entering the building. Below are examples of cafeteria and classroom procedures.
Exiting Plan
In this photo, you can see we will be dismissing our students in 3 phases. The times are written on the map.
