December at Woodbrook
Dear Woodbrook Families,
As 2022 comes to a close, I am thankful that we were all able to return to the collaborative, highly social environment which makes Woodbrook the amazing school we know and love. I hope you felt the energy of children excited to learn as you visited the classrooms during American Education Week in November. There is nothing better than a glimpse into our children's daily lives at school!
December is always a super exciting time at Woodbrook. We are kicking off the spirit of giving with our Toys for Tots Toy Drive and our Holiday Boutique. Please send in a new, unwrapped toy or game for the toy drive.
As you know, we are also the recipients of a wonderful gift...we are extremely grateful to Devine's Pharmacy for their very generous gesture to refurbish our beloved custom sign in front of our library. A special ceremony presented by some of our fifth grade students was held to properly thank and recognize the owner of Devine's Pharmacy, Mr. Robert B. Riedinger! The ceremony was recorded and will soon be shared on the Woodbrook Elementary Facebook page.

We want to ensure that everyone feels cared for and included at Woodbrook, not only during the holiday season, but everyday. We are observing a week of inclusion to bring attention to the importance of recognizing and including students with Autism and special needs. We encourage everyone to dress for the daily theme and to think about the daily class discussions and videos shared in homeroom each day. Please encourage your child to participate in the poster contest (see details below).
We look forward to our school wide activities which will include class parties hosted by our amazing PTO Class Parents, our annual holiday STEM challenges, the 5th Grade STEM Gingerbread House gallery walk, and our door decorating contest!
We are excited to host our Local Scripps Spelling Bee at Woodbrook on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. in the gym. Please come and watch the Woodbrook class bee winners in this competition which always impresses us!
It has been THREE LONG YEARS since we have been able to showcase almost all Woodbrook students at our annual Cultural Expo. Join us for an evening of songs from around the world and presentations of regions around the world at our Cultural Expo featuring your children! The children will sing under the direction of our own Ms. Tomasella and show off their research of the many regions and sights from around the world. Come to the cafe and gym on Thursday, January 26, 2023. K, 1 and 2 will begin at 5:30. Grades 3, 4 & 5 (and choir) will begin at 7:15pm. Children should dress up for the fun!!
Come cheer on your friends and neighbors at the Woodbrook's Got Talent Show in the gym on Friday, February 10, 2023 at 6:15 p.m. in the Woodbrook gym. ($5 per person entry fee for this PTO fundraiser).
For all students in grades K, 1, 2 and children in Mrs. Sullivan, Ms. Tunnell and Mrs. Ohlson's classes, first marking period ended December 1. Those students will work within the trimester marking period structure.
Report cards will be made available via parent portal on:
Dec. 16, March 23 & June 20
School photos were sent home last week. If you did not receive your photo, please call the main office. If you need to have your photo taken as a make up or if you need your photo retaken, make up day is Wednesday, Dec. 14 here at Woodbrook.

Mrs. Cirillo
