IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS OF EIGHTH GRADERS
Dear CMS Parents and Guardians,
On Wednesday, October 13th, 2021, our 8th grade students will take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT). Taking the PSAT can encourage students to start thinking seriously about life after high school, about college and career goals, and about the education needed to reach those goals. The PSAT has been designed to mirror the SAT.
Advantages in taking the PSAT include:
- Measuring reading, math, and writing skills needed for college and career planning. Students can use the score report to show strengths and weaknesses pertaining to college readiness.
- Preparing students for the SAT.
- Providing valuable information to parents and students on student potential for advanced academics in high school.
In addition to score reports, PSAT test takers will receive a unique access code to gain access to an online score reporting portal. From there, students will also have access to all college and career programs available on College Board.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the campus.
Regards,
Kristy Clark

GIFTED AND TALENTED REFERRALS FOR TESTING
Assessments are the most effective way to demonstrate what students have learned. Through testing we can identify students’ strengths and weaknesses, gaining insights into their academic achievement, abilities, and learning needs. A student may be referred for gifted/talented screening by a teacher, counselor, parent, or administrator, or other interested person. A referral for gifted/talented screening is made by contacting the school counselor and completing the online Gifted and Talented Parent Referral and Inventory form. The screening/assessment process is offered once per school year and consists of three phases. Phase I, the screening phase, Phase II, the assessment phase, and Phase III, the identification phase. Specific requirements must be met in order to advance to Phase II, the assessment phase.
