Earthquakes
The Storm of Earth's Surface
Earthquakes
Earthquakes can cause terrible disasters. According to the National Geographic article “Earthquake”, these terrible natural disasters are caused by plates scraping along each other (2015). Some possible damage that can happen are broken windows, broken structures, fires, and many others. This happens most often in populated places. The amount of energy released during an earthquake is called its magnitude, which is how geologists rate it. Currently, earthquakes are unable to be predicted by geologists, but they are working on new technology to do so (Earthquake 2015). An earthquake in China in 1556 killed 830,000 people. This was the deadliest earthquake in the world to ever happen. Overall, earthquakes can cause a lot of damage.

Earthquake Poem
It was 1964 in Alaska,
when it happened.
Fishing
boats
sank
down
and
down.
The Earth’s surface moved where the two plates met.
Causing
landslides,
tsunamis,
flooding,
and so much more.
At a magnitude of 9.2,
a lot of damage was caused.
It roared like a lion
moving and grooving to the beat of its boom.
It could smell fear,
killing 131 people.
Deadly,
Dangerous,
Booming,
Catastrophic,
Horrifying,
Wreckage
All of this describes what it did.
