PARENT/FAMILY NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 26, 2023-ISSUE #25
*******************************
Last week was a busy week at Clear View Elementary! Congratulations to our Battle of the Books team for making it to the Finals of the annual competition this past Friday! They did great! They may have been a little disappointed that they didn't win the whole thing, but their coaches, principal, school and families are VERY PROUD of how well they did!! An interesting note...of the six teams that qualified for the finals, three were RIchlands District Schools! There is a special picture of all three teams below...Heritage, Clear View, and Richlands El.
With the support of their wonderful sponsor, Ms. Church, we inducted our first group of National Elementary Honor Society members! This is the elementary version of National Honor Society (which is at the high school level). Students that met specific academic requirements were invited to apply. Applications were considered through a blind review and invitations to join were based on the Leadership, Scholarship, Character, and Service of the candidates, as these are the four tenets of NEHS. NEHS is open to students in fourth and fifth grade. I am excited to see what they are going to do and very proud of each of them!
On Friday, we launched our One School, One Book at an afternoon assembly! We will collectively be reading The World According to Humphrey beginning Monday, February 27, 2023. Each classroom received their class hamster (plush, not real) and students will all receive their very own copies of the book on Monday! Please take time to read the chapters with your student according to our schedule. They are not long and I know you will enjoy engaging in this journey with us!
At the end of our assembly, we announced our Teacher and Classified Employee of the year. Following nominations and a staff vote, Mrs. Amanda Neighbors, fifth grade teacher, was announced as the 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year, and Christy Jarman, treasurer, was announced as the 2022-2023 Classified Employee of the Year!! We are so excited to celebrate them and honored to work with them!
Also on Friday, our PTO hosted their second Movie Night. There were over 100 people in attendance as we watched Encanto. Colevanelli's was on site with yummy treats and the PTO had CVE merchandise for sale. It was a great evening! Their next movie night is March 17th. Movie title to come, but plan on being there!
This past week, Onslow County Schools published the Board approved calendars for the 2023-2024 school year. They can be found on the OCS website. The Calendar link below has been updates to access the new calendars as well.
This week is going to be another great week. A snippet of the week is just below. Be on the lookout for hamster sightings!
