BCS Moves to FULL REMOTE Learning
Oct. 17: Berkeley County Now ORANGE on School Alert Map
BCS Parents/Caregivers, Students and Staff:
I want to provide you an update on the status of instruction for Berkeley County Schools following the update and release of the School Alert System metrics this evening, Saturday, October 17, 2020.
Berkeley County has moved to ORANGE status based on the West Virginia Department of Education’s (WVDE) School Re-Entry Map. Therefore, BCS will begin full remote learning as of Monday, October 19, 2020. Due to heightened community Covid-19 transmission, as indicated by the ORANGE metric, all students, brick and click, will receive instruction remotely effective Monday, October 19. In-person instruction is suspended at this time. EXCEPTION: Some students receiving specialized educational services in the brick pathway may continue in-person instruction and delivery of services. Contacts will be made with these families early next week to provide an update and schedule.
Brick and click instruction will resume when Berkeley County returns to GOLD status. The next scheduled update to the WVDE School Alert System is Saturday, October 24th at approximately 5 pm. Please expect a BCS text or email via NTouch on Oct. 24th regarding the status of instruction for the upcoming week beginning October 26th.
Staff members will report to their assigned duties and be in communication with school administration. Essential student support services, including meals will continue. Curbside meals will be available on Monday, October 19th. Additional information will be provided on the BCS website.
All extracurricular activities and athletics are limited to conditioning only as defined by the WVSSAC. Marching band activities are limited to outdoor participation only. Instruments are permitted only when students are stationary and distanced in pods. (WVSSAC Guidelines for Post-Season Play is attached below.)
Students will be contacted by their school regarding their remote schedule. It is extremely important that families and students communicate any difficulty with technology, connectivity, or instructional delivery to their school.
Schoology will be used for instructional support, assignment access, class and course information, to record and display attendance and grades, and as a tool for schools to communicate.
Again, we thank you for your support and continued patience as we ALL continue to navigate the unique 2020-21 school year. We value your patience and support as we continue to focus on instruction, health and well-being, and the safety of our students and staff.
Please encourage those in your close community to help keep our students in school by avoiding close constant contact and observing all suggested Covid-19 precautions of wearing a face covering, hand washing and social distancing.
Stay safe. Be well.
