About National School Choice Week
Held every January, National School Choice Week shines a positive spotlight on effective education options for every child.
The goal of National School Choice Week (NSCW) is to raise public awareness of all types of education options for children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling.

UTVA 6th Grader Be. Christian
Be. previously attended a prestigious private school in Salt Lake City; however, after being diagnosed with Type I Diabetes in 2015, and the lack of an on-site nurse in middle school caused her parents to reassess Be’s schooling options.
After much research and evaluation Be’s parents concluded that UTVA would offer the optimal format for Be’s scholastic, medical and social needs.
Be. has thrived under the UTVA program. As a result of her dedicated studying, Be. has earned Honor Roll recognition for the last two quarters as well as various other awards associated with her math skills. Be. shares credit for her transition and success with her parents, especially her mother who is also her learning coach.
In addition to UTVA providing Be. and her parents with a solid learning environment, excellent teachers and regular testing to ensure progress is being made, the on-line/ virtual education format offers needed flexibility for Be’s medical needs and occasional parental business trips -as well as spend time with her therapy cat Nobu.
According to Be.: “UTVA provides me with an extraordinary learning experience, provides a good pace of learning and challenges me to achieve greater goals.”
