WELCOME TO OUR FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER
Conscious Discipline Book Club
Would you be interested in a book club in Conscious Discipline? The book "Easy to Love, Difficult to Discipline" is a great tool. It teaches seven basic skills for turning conflict into cooperation with children AND adults.
It's possible that we meet every week or every other week to talk about what we learn from this book. The schedule will depend on the groups availability and whether we meet in person or through zoom. The book would be provided to you for free and it would be yours to keep.
"Give children the communication skills they need to solve problems rather than getting them to act or be "nice"."
"Give children lifelong skills they will need to contribute to society rather than getting them to behave in ways that impress others."
"The skill of empathy; True empathy is that you listen to your child's feelings and thoughts without needing to change them."

VOLUNTEERING
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all 4J schools and facilities are closed to volunteers and visitors until further notice. We look forward to seeing our amazing volunteers again, possibly later this school year.

COUNSELING - MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT
Ms. Shannon, our school Social Worker, is available to support you and your students. For more intensive or ongoing needs, she can support you in accessing community based services. She can be contacted at 541-790-5383 or sell_s@4j.lane.edu.
Many of our local mental health resources are also listed below. Also included below is a partial list of crisis and mental health resources for youth and families in our area.
We partner with Roseburg Therapy to offer onsite appointments for students receiving their services during non COVID times. For right now Roseburg Therapy is offering support to families and students through telehealth.

FOOD BAGS PROVIDED EVERY WEEK FOR UP TO 30 FAMILIES
First United Methodist Church of Eugene partners with Chávez in providing 30 bags of food for individual families every week. This partnership has been going on for several years and we are fortunate to continue this much needed resource. The food bags are delivered to the school every Wednesday after 11:30 am. If you are in need of a food bag please let us know. If you would like to pick one up every week we will add your name to the list, otherwise they are first come first served.
FREE MEAL BOX PICKUP FOR CHILDREN BEGINS MAY 5TH
Beginning May 5, Eugene School District 4J will provide 4J students and youth 18 years old and younger free grab-and-go meal boxes every Wednesday in place of the weekly food box delivery.
The weekly meal boxes can be picked up between 12:45–2:15 p.m. at all 4J middle schools, except Arts & Technology Academy.
Each meal box contains four “heat and eat” breakfasts and lunches, plus five dinner meals. Vegetarian, no gluten, reduced-fat milk/soy milk options, and other dietary restrictions or allergen options are available.
When: Wednesdays, May 5–June 30, 12:45–2:15 p.m.

- Meal boxes are for ANY child age 18 and under
- No income requirements apply, and students do not have to qualify for free or reduced-price school meals
- Children do not need to be students in 4J
Free school meals will continue to be available through the summer and the 2021–22 school year.
COVID-19 protocols: Please keep in mind that masks must be worn and social distancing rules must be observed at all times. Students and families picking up meals must wear masks covering their nose, mouth and chin, and maintain at least 6 feet of distance from any person who is not a member of their immediate household.
CLOTHES FOR STUDENTS
Have your children grown so much that they are in need of clothes? Please email or call me the sizes your child wears. We have a partnership with Bags of Love and I will make the request and pick up the clothes for you.
