Education
Laplace attended a Benedictine priory school in Beaumont-en-Auge, as a day pupil, between the ages of 7 and 16. At the age of 16 Laplace entered Caen University. As he was still intending to enter the Church, he enrolled to study theology. However, during his two years at the University of Caen,
His Importance towards Physics
Major Contribution
Pierre-Simon Laplace had discovered his mathematical talents and his love of the subject. Laplace imparted in thing such as: geometry, trigonometry, and elementary analysis. He formulated the Laplace equation and Laplace transform which appear in many mathematical physics.
Brief Summary
Laplace is well known for the Laplace equation which is very, prevalent in physics today. His equation is the most simple example of elliptical particle differential equations. The solutions that result out of Laplace’s equations are those of harmonic functions which are very important in the studies of physics. His equation lead to the true physical discovery of harmonic functions which describe precisely: electric, gravitational, and fluid potentials. This theory/ research founded by Laplace benefits the science’s of electromagnetism, astronomy and fluid dynamics.
