Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.

Miss Buffini would like to thank all the students who have taken part in activity week, and also all staff who supported, it was been a fantastic week.

Subject Highlights:
Maths:
Mr Lee has nominated Year 10 students Max and Kacper L for excellent work with compound interest this week. Also nominated are Zhivko, Ryan, Antoni, Amelie, Zsofia and Liam for being the top performers in each of their respective classes in our end of year mock examinations!
Mrs Wynn has nominated 9A2 and 9C2 on their excellent end of year assessments with a special mention to Vanessa D and Will M on for excellent results.
Miss Kaur has nominated 9A3 for their consistent positive attitude to learning in maths. In particular this week Dawid N, Mark H, Hollie W, Szymon K and Madison M have really stood out. Also nominated are students in 10A1 Stas, Thomas, Harry and Zhivko for showing their methods in exchanging currency, Miss Kaur was very impressed by this.
Ms Adamska would like to say well done to 9A1 students for their continued enthusiasm in their Maths study.
Music:
Miss Patrick has made the following nominations this week:
Year7:
A group of Year 7 students took part in a 'scrapheap challenge' music workshop this week. Students made their own instruments out of recycled goods (very kindly donated from staff) and then prepared a performance with these instruments (and some body percussion) in groups. Miss Patrick was so impressed with the creative instruments made by Mia and Oliwia in 7ST and Alfie and Arry in 7TE. I would also like to mention Halli in 7TE and Riley in 7ST for their brilliant leadership skills - well done!
Year 8:
Year 8 have been preparing their reggae songs this week and finalising their chord patterns and lyrics. Miss Patrick would like to celebrate Jorja, Bronwyn, Alicja and Danica for their inventive song on their preference for winter over summer - great work!
Year 9:
Year 9 have been continuing practice for a performance at the end of term - next week! I have really enjoyed hearing these pieces coming together. This week Miss Patrick would like to celebrate 9CU for their brilliant groupwork this week. Students have demonstrated that they are able to work together effectively, and this has had a positive impact on their practice time - well done!
Humanities:
Mr Foreman has nominated 12D History for their uptake of their NEA coursework in the last two lessons. Also nominated are Year 10 students Roman G, Isabelle W, Harry W, Kyle R and Thomas L for their excellent Mock Exam Grades and Eureka T, Sam S, Alicia H, Harry E, Harry C and Ryan B for their excellent effort towards their Mock Exam Grade.
Students have recently completed a mock for Year 10 Sociology and Mrs Brown is really pleased with the resilience the group has shown in preparing for and taking this exam. Well done to the whole class, but a particular celebration for these students: Esosa, Ryan, Bella, Olivia, Isla, Zsofia, Kyle R and Sam who all secured a grade 6 and above in this exam!
Miss Forbes has nominated Year 12 students for their hard work this year in Psychology, in particular Grace Mc d for her hard work this year and revision for the most recent mock exam papers. Also nominated is Year 12 student Finlay W for his on going dedication to History and his History revision that he has completed, especially outside of school hours.
Library:
Our new Librarian Miss Cunningham has nominated Year 8 students Scarlett and Filip who have helped in the Library each morning and also after school. They are both enthusiastic, kind, encouraging and nothing is too much trouble. Scarlett has also been marvellous in helping to plan a club taking place in the Library in September, has donated a knitting and crocheting ‘starter kit’ and has even volunteered to teach club members how to knit and crochet. She is a wonderful role model to the other pupils and Miss Cunningham feels she is a fantastic asset to both the Library and the school.

Year 10 Computer Science:
Mrs Macleod’s Year 10D/CS1 students have gone onto a new topic in Computer Science called “Data Representation.” They have been looking at hexadecimal and binary and hexadecimal and denary. Students have completed different worksheets to practise the skills needed to carry out their tasks. Well done to the following students for putting a lot of effort into their work during the lesson: Robert, Mariyah, Joprince, Kacper, Joshua, Max, Rhys, Patriskas, Joshua, Dominika, Arina, Cole, Freddie, Dominik, Benjamin, Mihai, Marian, Stas, Zhivko, Harrison, Daniel, Toby, Tyler, Shane, Oliver, Linards, Oliver and Keeley.
Year 9 Computer Science:
9SW/CS, 9CA/CS, 9TE/CS and 9TU/CS students have been learning about a basic understanding of vector graphics, MIDI sound, and compression. Well done to the following students for putting a lot of effort into their work during the lesson: Klaudia, Grace, Victoria, Maddie, Lubo, Losif, Olivia, Oliwia, Fraya, Veronia, Sian, Faith, Karina, Veronica, Karina, James, Roisin, Kaitlyn, Gabriela, Nikola, Mia, Kristof, Leah, Aleksandra, Kailyn, Bartosz, Jayden, Tyler and Lucas.
Year 8 Computer Science:
Year 8 students have been working hard on the introduction of using Inkscape to create graphics. In this week’s lesson students compared vector images with bitmaps images. Students consider which image type best suits which situation. Well done to the following students for putting a lot of effort into their work: Megan, Aurelia, Chantal, Dylan, Alex, Filip, Mirren, Freya, Emie and Gracie.
PE:
Mr Clamp has nominated Year 9 students Jayden for showing excellent enthusiasm throughout the year in PE and Dylan for always applying himself to every to lesson and giving maximum effort in every scenario.
Spanish:
Mrs Bartlett would like to say a big well done to all the Year 10 Spanish students who have completed their first GCSE mock speaking exam. They now have a greater understanding of the whole speaking exam process and can use this important experience to build on next steps. We would like to particularly congratulate Veronika and Marian for their exceptional results!
Science:
Mr Godfrey has nominated Year 11 students Theo, Robert and Adam S. They have been successful in their applications for the prestigious STEM potential programme run by Oundle School and Imperial College, well done to you both!
Mr Abnett has nominated Year 10 students Thomas L and Antoni M for excellent progress in their recent Chemistry mocks.
Miss Kritzinger has nominated 8BZ and 8CX for great practical work this week, looking at the densities of different materials. Also nominated are Year 10 students Esosa, Penny and Arina for their hard work in their Maths in Chemistry lessons this week.
English:
Miss Duncan would like to day well done to 9C1 for their efforts and achievements in their English end of year assessments. Their understanding of Salt to the Sea was impressive - 17 students got full marks! Particular successes in the creative writing portion of the assessment were Lily C, Ann Maria, Maisy Mc and Beatrice. Miss Duncan is very proud of the class’s hard work all year and these brilliant results.
Miss Lodge would like to congratulate Dawid, Mark, Szymon, Stefan and Joel in 9AZ for some fantastic reading of our play this term 'Journey's End'. These students volunteered to read parts from the play and read confidently and clearly showing great enthusiasm in the lesson. Also nominated are students in 10B1 English who have worked hard on their speeches for their NEA speaking and listening. Miss Lodge has been been impressed by their commitment to their studies shown through the completion of work at home and the range of intriguing, well researched and argued ideas they have presented. Well done!
Miss Vye has nominated 8CZ and 8BZ to for their excellent work this week in their English lessons. They have each chosen a topic, researched and they have been writing up their speeches using persuasive techniques. Miss Vye is looking forward to hearing them deliver the speeches next week!
Mr Toye has nominated 10AY for constructing robust speeches in preparation of their NEA and providing thought provoking topics to class discussions.
Year 7 Activity Week:
Students finished the week with a trip to the Savoy Cinema.
Year 6 Transition Day:
Emilia Year 8:
Well done to Emilia for her recent archery successes. She was awarded a first-place medal and trophy for girls’ under 14 bare bow, and a red rosette for achieving a score over 800. Her dedication and passion is paying off!
Year 9 DT:
Year 9 have been creating birdhouses this term with Mr McCrory. They made use of 2D Design and laser engraved roofs for the birdhouses.
