Holiday Safety Tips
Below are 10 holiday safety tips to keep your home and your family safe this season.
- Keep decorations at least three feet away from heat sources - especially those with an open flame, like fireplaces and candles.
- The best decorations are safe decorations, so when you're decorating, make sure not to run cords under rugs or furniture.
- If you have a real Christmas tree, water it to keep it fresh and safe.
- Always turn off your decorations when you leave your home and when you are sleeping.
- If you are using extension cords or adapters that add receptacles, consider having a qualified electrician add more outlets to your home.
- Only use electronics in dry areas.
- Every home needs a working smoke alarm in each bedroom, outside sleeping areas, and on every level of the home.
- If you are using a space heater, switch it off before leaving the room.
- Inspect your decorations and discard any that are damaged or worn.
- Keep batteries stored safely in their packaging and out of reach of small children and pets.

Littering
There has been an increased amount of litter in the Town and our Parks department has spent many hours picking up trash in the past week.
Did you know that littering (< five lbs) is a Class C misdemeanor (Texas Health & Safety Code §365.012) punishable by a fine of up to $500?
In an effort to deter littering, there are two ways you can help:
1). If you observe someone littering, please take down their license plate number, make and color of vehicle, date and time, location, who tossed the litter (driver/passenger), what was tossed, etc. and report it to the Sunnyvale Police Department, so that appropriate action can be taken.
OR
2.) If you observe someone littering, visit http://www.dontmesswithtexas.org/get.../report-a-litterer/
TxDOT compares the information through the Department of Motor Vehicles' registration database, and when an exact match is located, they send the litterer a Don’t Mess With Texas litterbag along with a letter reminding them to keep their trash off Texas roads.
