Vision Screening
The Florida Heiken Children’s Vision Program is very pleased to have the opportunity to work with your county in the 2018-2019 school year. We are very excited to announce that we have secured funding to allow us to provide a no cost eye exam and glasses to all Florida public school children able to be served by our mobile units at your school sites, even if the child has insurance or has passed a vision screening. It is very important for all children to receive annual eye exams to check to health of the eyes and detect any conditions that could prevent future vision loss and does not necessarily result in the need for glasses. We encourage you to distribute the Florida Heiken Children’s Vision Program Flyer / Consent form to all parents to give them the opportunity to apply for no cost vision services for their children. A minimum of 15 students at a school are required to schedule a mobile unit. Please note that this opportunity is only available on a mobile unit, insured children are not eligible to be issued vouchers to the in office providers. Parents can apply via our Heiken Portal in under 5 minutes at www.floridaheiken.org from their phone, tablet or computer in English, Spanish, Creole and Portuguese.
SAC
The SAC meeting scheduled for Tuesday, February 5th at 6PM, will be moved to February 5th at 6:30PM in the media center. This will allow for any members who have students interested in AP/DE to attend the parent night.

Consider Advanced Placement for your Coyote
There are many reasons why students should take Advanced Placement, some of which include:
- AP students learn essential time management and study skills needed for college and career success.
- They dig deeper into subjects that interest them and learn to tap their creativity and their problem-solving skills to address course challenges.
- Students who take AP courses send a signal to colleges that they’re serious about their education and that they’re willing to challenge themselves with rigorous coursework. 85% of selective colleges and universities report that a student’s AP experience favorably impacts admission decisions.
- Research shows that students who take AP courses and exams are much more likely than their peers to complete a college degree on time.
- Most colleges and universities nationwide offer college credit, advanced placement, or both for qualifying AP Exam scores.
