Variety of Ways to Grow a Bean
Students have been busy gardening in our 3rd grade quad. They have been growing bean pods hydroponically. It's important for our students to understand that food doesn’t magically appear on grocery store shelves. Growing food takes knowledge and skill, and in an urban environment like Bangkok, it’s important for our health, as well as the health of the environment, to have locally grown food. Hydroponics, the growing of plants using mineral nutrients and water, without soil, is a sustainable method of food production that provides more opportunities for urban gardening. This links to what our 3rd graders learned during our Social Studies unit, Our Fragile Earth back in 1st trimester.
