Maglev Trains
By Eduard
Have you ever.....
Wanted to ride in a literally hovering train that goes as fast as 603km per hour? Well, it’s possible with Maglev (Magnetic levitation) trains! (The picture next to this is a Maglev train)
How do Maglevs Float?
There are two magnets placed, one on the track and another on the train, the one on the train is an electromagnet. They repel each other and cause the maglev to float! And because they float, they don’t touch the track, that means they don’t make friction which lets them go faster.
How do Maglevs Move?
The Maglev trains have 2 magnets on each of their side, north and south. The track also has magnets around it, south then north then south then north and so on. The north magnet on the train repels against the north magnet on the track, and also attracts to the south pole on the track. Same with all the other magnets on the maglev (except south gets attracted to north and gets repelled by south). So this causes movement.
Where do you Find Them?
Sadly, there are no Maglevs in Hungary but there are in Germany, Japan and China. And they are open to the public! So you can ride them too! But the public Maglev’s trains max speed is 430 km/hr.
Can Maglevs get Faster?
Yes, they can! If you put them in a vacuum chamber they can go faster than 1000 km/h! They actually got to that speed in Southwest Jiaotong University. Scientist say that it can go even FASTER, more than 3500 km/h!
How Much Does a Maglev Ticket Cost?
(From Shanghai city to Shanghai Airport)
In a maglev there are two areas, standard and VIP. For an one way standard ticket, it cost: 6.88 Euro, for a two way standard ticket, it cost: 11 Euro. For an one way VIP ticket, it cost: 13.75 Euro, For a two way VIP ticket, it cost: 22 Euro.

Conclusion
In conclusion, I think maglev trains are very cool. I like how they hover, and I like that they are very fast. But Maglev tracks are also very expensive, which I don’t like. I hope that they will cost less in the future.
