After School Programs Around the District
Additionally, we're bringing back a program that Gateway had many years ago - Wright Flight. Western Mass Wright Flight at Gateway introduces students in 7th and 8th grades to the field of aviation, its history, the principles of flight, and the many career opportunities available in the aviation industry. The program emphasizes the relationship between a strong educational program in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and a successful career. The program emphasizes the importance of setting goals, developing plans to attain those goals, and understanding the need to develop skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. The program consists of 10 - 12 one hour classes after school and includes field trips, going in the flight simulator and even flying to Orange, Mass. Information was sent home as well as emailed to families in grades 6-10 today.
We're also adding a Golf Club to our After School program for middle and high school students. Thank you to Worthington Golf Club for allowing us to use their course on Wednesday afternoons.

What is Ready4K?
Ready4K is a research-based text messaging program for families with kids from birth to 8th grade. Each week, you’ll receive texts with fun facts (in English, Spanish, Russian and seven other languages) and tips on ways to help your child learn and grow. You’ll also receive information on community resources to support you and your family.
Ready4K tips build on your daily routines, like getting dressed, bath time, or preparing a meal. And you’ll always get messages that match your child’s age.
How do I sign up?
Sign up is free! Text HCHC to 70138 to sign up

4. Russell Library News:
Just as we anticipate fall changes in September, there have been changes at the Russell Library! After many years of superb work as Library Director, Jodie Paradis is stepping down to pursue a new career in nursing. We want to express our sincere gratitude for her dedication to the library and wish her all the best in her new pursuit. Dawne Piers-Gamble, a retired Gateway Regional Elementary and Middle School teacher, has been hired as Library Director in her place. Ms. Dawne, a Russell resident, is excited to serve the Russell community and continue to make the library a resource and gathering place for Russell residents and the larger Hilltown community.
- Parents, please join us with your little ones ages 2-5 every Tuesday at 11:00 AM for an Interactive Storytime with Ms. Dawne.
- Hey Kids, make tracks to the Russell Library on Saturday, September 17th, from 10:00 to 12:00. Learn to be an animal detective in the woods. Join us to explore animal tracks and scat through books, crafts and games. Best suited to children 3 to 10 years of age.
- Families join us at the library for a lively and humorous performance with Rick Goldin on Saturday, September 24th from 1:00-2:00. His interactive songs have made him one of the most popular children’s entertainers in New England, and the winner of the Parents’ Choice Recommended Award. This is sponsored by the Hilltown Family Center, with funding provided through a Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Grant through the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.
