Lobello's Letter

Week in Review
What a wet week! This week we turned into poets. Usually we read the poetry but this week we started writing our own! We wrote Acrostic poems, senses poems, -ing poems and adjective poems. We also read a bunch a great poetry books. I tweeted a few of the titles and authors.
In math this week we spent some time reviewing money and telling time. Students are doing a great job but these two topics are always good to review at home. I just read about a parent who was having her child count her pocket change at the end of the day and if he could identify all of the coins and their value then he was able to keep the change.
We finished reading The One and Only Ivan this week and 91% of the class said the y liked the book. Personally I thought it was an AMAZING book!! We started reading Marty McGuire which is a great series by Kate Messner if you are looking for summer ideas. I am putting together a list now of some great books to read this summer and will hopefully have that to you soon.
Scootpad
Once again the class did a great job using Scootpad for homework. A homework log will be coming home this week to help you know what students need to complete nightly. Students are expected to complete 1 math practice and 1 reading practice nightly. If you are having trouble with the app at home try closing all apps and closing everything that is open is Safari. This seems to be helping. Students do have a picture of their user name and password in their photo roll if they forget it.
Dia de los ninos/ Dia de los libros
Next Tuesday, April 30th after our school parade at 2:40 all parents are welcome to come back to our classroom for some snuggle up and read time!
Henking Summer Reading Program
Don't forget to sign up for the Henking Hawks Take Flight Summer Reading Program!!!
When a students is absent:
Please remember when a student is sick it is my expectation that he/she is reading for 20 minutes and completing his/her iPad homework. I do not send home extra work because it is my expectation that homework is a review of what we cover in class. If your child is not here he/she is unable to participate in the teaching of the lessons covered. The great news is that with the iPads students can always be reviewing concepts in engaging ways!
Mrs. Lobello's Book Club
I am really looking forward to our first book club this Thursday night. It has been so exciting listening to the kids talk about the book and even reading other Dan Gutman books!!
