December NSE Mustang Message
#BetterTogether #MustangStrong
Message from the Principal
We cannot believe 2019 has almost come to an end! The students and teachers have been working very hard the first two quarters of the school year. We want to thank our parents for all of the support so far. We look forward to the rest of the school year. December is full of excitement. Please check out the December dates below. We have very important middle of the year assessments approaching. Please encourage your child to do his/her best on each one. Make sure your child is going to bed early enough to get 8-9 hours of sleep. A well rested mind learns and performs better than a tired mind.
As you know students in grades K-4 have a reading goal each quarter. Grades 1-4 read books and take tests for points. If they meet their goal, they get to attend the AR party. Their are also extra rewards for going beyond the goal by doubling, tripling, etc. If they double their yearly goal they get to attend a bowling party. We sent home letters on how to follow your child's reading goal online at the Renaissance website. If you need help getting logged in, please contact your child's teacher or our librarian.
Kinder participates using their word lists instead of books. They have a goal each quarter to attend the AR parties. Any kinder student completing all 11 lists will also get to attend the bowling party!
You can help your child reach the goals by reading at home. The holidays are a great time to keep reading! See the links in this newsletter for ideas on how to make reading fun during the holidays. Children that keep reading on school breaks, are able to maintain their reading levels and avoid sliding backwards.
Math facts are great to practice at home too. Third and fourth graders need to have multiplication mastered. Grades 1-2 are working on addition and subtraction. Click on the link below in this newsletter for some fun ways to practice math facts over the holidays.
Your help at home will make all the difference in the world! #BetterTogether makes us #MustangStrong!
Sincerely,
Lundy Atkins

Attendance Works: A Community Imperative
Attendance Reminder
PK graduation is determined by attendance. If a PK student misses more than 17 days in the school year he or she will not be able to participate in graduation. All other grades are at risk of retention if 90% attendance is not met. Most of all, each day missed is a missed opportunity to learn. Unless a child is sick, he or she needs to be in school.
Our goal for the year is to reach 97% attendance. Help us reach our goal!
