COVID-19 Update
As we continue to see more and more business and school closures around the country we begin to wonder when or if our school will close. Here are some facts and things to know regarding this.
On Friday 3/13/20 Governor Newsom initiated more executive orders to support schools that close to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
This new order still however requires schools to "provide high quality education opportunities" and "meet the needs of the students and families" Interpreting exactly what that means in regards to education, meals and child care is not explicitly outlined. It would be important to continue supporting families that we serve, so they can continue to sustain the infrastructure throughout our county. The question becomes how do we balance this with while doing our part to slowing the spread of the pandemic.
Things to remember:
Overall school age students have not been severely impacted by the virus.
Studies comparing other countries who have or have not closed schools to slow the spread of the virus are mixed.
Remember that currently there is only one confirmed case of someone having the Coronavirus in our county.
Positive Changes:
Increased hygiene lessons for our students, increasing our cleaning of surfaces at Rother to help combat cold, flu and coronavirus. We will also be limiting visitors to our school, but allowing our current students and staff to continue practicing/scrimmaging softball against themselves.
We must all realize that this situation is fluid and information is changing rapidly. It is important for us all to remember that our goal is to meet the needs of our students and families. We will strive to accomplish that goal in the capacity necessary, regardless if Rother is part of a school closure in the future or not.
