How To Use This Instructional Strategy
- Prepare Learning Logs- Make learning log by using lined and unlined paper and staple it into a booklet.
- Use Learning Logs- Students take notes, list vocabulary, write questions, and summaries.
- Monitor Students' Entries- Teachers read journals and clarify confusions as well as answer student's questions.
- Write Reflection- Teacher sometime ask students to write a reflection at the end of a lesson or unit on what they have learned.
When To Incorporate Learning Logs
Learning logs can be used as learning tools for students where they can practice using their new vocabulary words. At the beginning of a unit the teacher can have students write down something they would like to learn. At the end of units students can write a little reflection about what they learned or still don't understand. Teachers can use learning logs to monitor students learning and what they are confused on. Learning logs can also be incorporated in other content areas like math, science, and social studies. In math students can use learning logs to record explanations and examples of concepts learned.
