All Star Team Action Plan Summaries
Star Constellations
Our team decided that we need to meet outside of the ER days due to having our lessons on the ER days. We began to plan our “Kickoff” Assembly which will connect the Kdg students and our 22 new students to their groups. This will take place on our next Early Release Day, September 27th. Our team is meeting next week to outline the assembly and create lesson 1. The focus will be on getting to know one another. Our team will also be asking our group leaders to do an introductory letter, or some sort of “All About Me” page so that families know who their child’s SC group leader is. More information about this, including a template will be coming in two weeks. We also began to brainstorm some ideas for future lessons.
Student Leadership Roles:
Greeter Leader applications will be coming out to students with a target date of the end of Sept. Fifth graders will be surveyed to see what their interests are.
A google form will be created to capture ideas about what adult responsibilities can be turned over to students. We are also looking to gather information about what leadership roles/clubs we already have, what we need/want, and connecting staff members who are interested in sponsoring these leadership opportunities.
Family and Community Outreach:
This team is planning to put out a parent survey. Also, the focus of a parent night will be service oriented. The target date for this will be March, prior to Spring Break. Monthly newsletters about each of the 7 Habits will be created and sent home to families as part of Dave’s Monthly Parent Newsletters. Also, they will be posted on the website.
Student Growth and Goals:
Our team came up with ideas for goal setting that we would like to start September. We would like to start with an easy SEL grade level goal. Each grade level can choose the goal they would like. Here are some examples we were thinking of sharing with the staff as ideas they could use if they need it.
-Students having shoes in their cubby at the end of the day
-Floor is clean at the end of the day
-Plug in technology in the correct spot at the end of the day
-Have all of your materials brought in at the start of the day
Each class will receive a paper calendar to display in the hallway. At the end of each day, a student can color in the day green (if they met the goal) or red (if they did not meet the goal). Grade levels can decide the percentage success rate each month. The goals can also change each month or not. Our team will figure out how to copy and distribute the first months calendar. Our calendar is located in the Student Goal & Goal Setting Folder.
School Environment
This team started their focus with beautifying the school. Ideas in development include putting teacher bios outside of classroom doors, street signs for hallways, moving the lost and found, and putting inspirational quotes in the bathrooms. (Some of these may be an idea for Star Constellations)
This team also discussed potential community involvement from some outside groups. One idea is to work with a local art studio in collaboration with our students to do some sort of art display in the APR.
Opportunities for student leadership that impact the school environment were also discussed. These included greeter leaders, lunchroom, hallway leaders.
