Oakview's Primary Pride

February 8-12, 2016

YOUR VOTE COUNTS!

If historical trends hold, only about eight races will be contested by the time the Texas general election rolls around in November. Due to low voter turnout, your voice will be amplified during the primary election season.

Also, here is a resource to allow you to look at information on the candidates for Texas Senate District 1 race or Texas House of Representatives, too. Go to this site: http://teachthevote.org/races

(I believe an ATPE site) and you can search all present legislators voting history. Obviously, General Brown and Mike Lee will not have any past history.

SCIENCE EXPO

Just a friendly reminder that our 1st Science Expo will be April 28th. We visited with you all when we came back from the Christmas break. It won't be overwhelming if you are working on it a little bit each month.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 15TH

I wanted to give you all a little heads up about our Professional Development day on Monday, February 15th.

  • For those involved with TELPAS, you will calibrate at NBHS starting at 8:30.
  • Pre-K teachers will be involved in Waterford training all morning.
  • Professional aides will set up the book fair.
  • If you are not involved in one of those three activities, then the rest will learn about new technology that can be incorporated into the classroom. This will be presented by the teachers that attended TCEA.
  • In the afternoon, all homeroom teachers will join the Waterford presentation as a review about how Classroom Advantage can be used as a whole group teaching piece.

More specifics will be provided in next week's Oakview's Primary Pride.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

Remember, our campus is where we are teaching students the expectations for school behavior. Most students do not come to us with prior knowledge about "school rules." Classroom procedures and rules need to be reviewed and practiced often. Don't take for granted that just because you have told them once that is all that is needed. Review, review, review.

"NACHO" AVERAGE VALENTINES

You all are a spectacular staff, and Mrs. Wyatt and I would like to celebrate Valentines with you by providing a "nacho" bar on Friday, February 12th. Thank you all for creating a warm and welcoming place for both students and staff.

BOX-TOPS COMPETITION

The Box-Tops competition ends on Thursday, February 11th at 3:30. Please turn in all sheets to Mrs. Wyatt with your name on the front. She will send out an e-mail that afternoon to tell which class will receive the cookies and juice on Friday.

We will continue to collect box-tops even when this competition is over. Remember, the class with the most at the end of the year will receive a pizza party.
