Food Drive for the West Linn Food Pantry
Our Trillium Creek 4th graders have been learning about food insecurity and are collecting canned food/non-perishable items for the West Linn Food Pantry. Collection bins are located outside the office. Canned fruits and vegetables, beans, peanut butter, and high protein items are much appreciated. Last day to drop off food is December 12th. Thank you for your donations.
The Hour of Code
Dear Parents,
We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works.
But only a tiny fraction of us are learning how technology works. Only 35% of all high schools teach computer science.
That’s why our entire school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (December 3rd-9th). More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code. We will be introducing Hour of Code and these foundational 21st-century skills during library class time. Hour of Code is certainly not limited to this week alone. Once students develop fluency with a coding game, encourage them to explore another so that we can inspire them to learn more about computer science.
The Hour of Code, organized by the nonprofit Code.org and over 100 others, is a global movement that believes the students of today are ready to learn critical skills for 21st-century success.
See https://code.org/learn for details and to continue the learning at home.
Thank you,
Erica Hironimus

The "Green" Corner
Did you know....
More than 100 Portland businesses have already taken the step voluntarily, electing to provide plastics by request only or offering straws and utensils made from paper, bamboo or metal. You can order your own reusable straw from Net Zero Straw company to keep straws out of the ocean and our landfills. https://netzerostraw.com/pages/mission
Make this a fun stocking stuffer that makes a difference!
You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make. - Jane Goodall
At Trillium Creek we are partnering with TREX to help with the plastic pollution. You are able to recycle your clean, dry empty plastic bags and film packaging. Look for bins and signage as you walk through the front doors of the school. With our first drop off we recycled 28 lbs of plastic. Way to go Trillium Creek!
We can no longer recycle batteries or ink cartridges here at Trillium. If you have questions on where to go to recycle these items, please call Metro.
Holiday Help In Our Community
We know that there are many families in our community who are experiencing challenging financial circumstances. We wanted to let you know of a resource available for you to pass on to those families in need this holiday season.
Next Monday and Tuesday, Willamette Christian Church will be holding a Christmas Market from 10am until 8pm. We will have shelf-stable foods, winter outerwear, and gift cards available, at no cost and with no questions asked (other than name and email address to verify each family is visiting just once, and to let them know if additional food is left over at the end of the two days). In the evenings we'll also have refreshments and an activity for kids.
Counselor Corner
Health & Wellness Lessons
A note from your school counselor:
We are using the Second Step Program: Skills for Social and Academic Success as our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum in all elementary schools in our district. The Second Step program teaches children important skills for getting along with others and doing well in school. It also helps our school and community be a safe and supportive place where everyone can learn. These lessons are taught in the classroom by your child’s teacher on a regular basis throughout the year.
The Second Step Program also has a Child Protection Unit which our district has adopted as part of our health curriculum. The 4 lessons in this unit focus on these concepts:
Personal Safety. Children will learn important safety rules, such as safety around fire, with dangerous items, and when riding on wheels or in cars. They will also learn ways to help them decide if something is safe or not.
Touching Safety. Children will learn about safe, unsafe, and unwanted touches, and rules about touching private body parts. They’ll also learn to say no to unsafe or unwanted touches, and to tell a grown-up if someone breaks rules about touching private body parts.
Assertiveness. These lessons will also give children a chance to practice asking a grown-up for help, telling a grown-up about an unsafe situation, and being assertive to get out of unsafe situations.
I am teaching these lessons one grade level at a time. Lessons begin in December. If your student is in the grade level that will be taught, you will receive a detailed parent letter in addition to more information BEFORE lessons begin. Feel free to contact me via email: ramosc@wlwv.k12.or.us if you have additional questions.

Safety Spotlight — Threat Assessment Process
This week's Safety Spotlight focuses on our district's Threat Assessment Process. The Threat Assessment Process is utilized in occasions where a student may demonstrate an action that may be deemed as potentially harmful to the physical well-being of other students or staff. To learn about the district's Threat Assessment Process, please access the dedicated webpage on the district website. In particular, note the Threat Assessment Flow Chart, which outlines procedure and protocol in the event of a Threat Assessment.

Reminders......
*With the weather changing please remember to send your child in warm clothes, with a jacket and appropriate shoes on their feet. Students still go out to recess when it is raining to get fresh air. Make sure their name is on the tag in their jacket. Please keep checking the lost and found for missing items..
*Students are allowed in the building at 7:35 AM. School begins at 7:50. You will be marked tardy after 7:50.
*All visitors/volunteers must enter through the front doors and sign in at the office into our Help Counter system.
*If you have an item that needs to be dropped off to your child, please let the office do that for you. It's less interruption for the classroom. Items would include: snacks, coats, binders, library books, lunch, etc. We have Trillium Creek staff that deliver items throughout the day.
