April hath put a spirit of youth in everything-William Shakespeare
Hey Tot Spot Family!!!
- Spring is finally here!!!!!! We are super excited to finally be able to enjoy the sunshine outside and get some fresh air!!! The Tot Spot Times Too is now combined with The Tot Spot Times. We will also be combining Facebooks in the future as well, so be sure and like our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/TheTotSpotSchool/
- Also make sure you are driving slow during pickup/drop off. Don't run stop signs or whip into parking spaces. Children easily dart and we don't want anyone getting hurt :)
- Please make sure you have our business lined saved in your phones so that you'll know The Tot Spot is calling. 317-849-3235
- Thanks to the grandparent who came out to TTS Too for the Tasting of the Greens! The Smalls really enjoyed you being there. Hope you had as much fun as we did!
- Don't forget we go outside to play as much as possible. Please pack jacket and snow/rain boots really come in handy for the mud.
- Moving update: We're excited that the two places will be combing into one home! The building renovations began last week and they should be completed in May. At that point we will move in furniture and have inspections done for licensing. We're hoping to be moved in by the 1st week of June! I'll keep you posted.

In the Classroom!
The Smalls
Well we're working hard on advancing many skills this month.
Sensory, Art, Science:
We will be working on exploring spring. We of course need to learning about seeds and the growing cycle. We're also going to discuss rain and thunder. We want to help the children understand that it may be load, but it's not scary. Hopefully in the future they won't get out of bed to wake the parents, lol. Check out our two new songs for the month below.
Dramatic Play:
We'll continue to concentrate on mixing in working on a few social-emotional goals through our dramatic play. They've gotten being gentle with the baby people down. We're continuing to work on this concept with our peers and books.
Sharing and taking turns is also going well, now we're working hard on cleaning up our toys before we move on to something else. They're really into taking care of their dolls/babies. We're going to be doing a lot of "cooking" and cleaning in the kitchen and teaching our babies how to clean up.
Math:
This month we're really working on making our snack math Super Exciting! We are also continuing to working on sorting by colors and shapes. This month we're bringing back our sorting boxes and cupcakes and of course we'll be counting and sorting seeds! We're still working on those two-piece puzzles.
Music and Movement:
Sing these tunes at home:
Planting Song: “I’m a Little Seed" (To the tune of “I’m a Little Teapot")
I’m a little seed. I’m small and round. [Curl right forefinger and thumb into the shape of a small circle.]
Plant me deep into the ground. [Cup left hand, and mime poking the seed down into it.]
Give me sun and water, and you know, [Use right hand to “spray" water on the cupped hand by opening suddenly.]
Before you know it, up I’ll grow! [Push right hand up through cupped left hand, then open right hand so it looks like a sprouting plant.]
Rain Song: Drizzle, drizzle, drizzle, drizzle, [Flutter your fingers with your palms facing downwards.]
Drizzle like the rain.
Pitter patter, pitter patter, [Clap your hands against your thighs if you’re sitting, or lightly pat your baby’s tummy with your hands.]
It’s coming down again.
_________________
Thunder, thunder, I hear thunder [Clap your hands loudly, or clap your child’s hands together.]
What a scary sound! [Cover your ears with your hands.]
All the rain up in the sky [Raise your child’s hands up high above her head.]
Falls down upon the ground. [Bring your child’s hands down suddenly.]
Zoophonics:
We are focusing much more on our Zoophonics friends within our names.
We are still working on identifying our name when it is written and our 1st letter.
Here's to a Happy Spring!
The Scouts
We will be discussing the bones in our body, making Underwater magic sand, learning some yoga, making yummy strawberry yogurt bark, creating different collages, and doing various other experiments and art activities. We finally know all our colors so we no longer have to wear a special color on Thursdays. We will be moving onto shapes next!!
We are also working on following directions and using our listening ears. The older Scouts are writing their names and the younger Scouts are still working on spelling their names. We are also working hard on our graduation songs and can't wait for you to see us perform!!!
The Sawyers/Sherlocks
This month we will be working on a few social emotional skills that will prepare everyone for kindergarten! We will work on tidying up when we are done with our activities, being kind to our friends by using kind words and kind gestures, and when we are mad, we will work on calming ourselves down and counting to 10 before we react. Graduation is approaching and we have been practicing and our graduates are SO EXCITED! These kiddos continue to grow everyday and I love being a part of their growth!
Don't forget about our field trip April 25th to see Brown Bear Brown Bear, permission slips will be emailed out soon!
Happy Learning!

Brown Bear Brown Bear Play
Details:
The Tot Spot Pre-K and older Scouts class will be going on and adventure to see an outstanding play at Clowes Memorial Hall. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is joined by a whimsical cast of adventurous animals drawn from the pages of Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? And a the poignant story of a young girl's unusual quest, Papa Please Get the Moon for Me. Featuring evocative music, stunning visual effects and innovative puppetry, the triple-bill highlights three of Eric Carle's most beloved tales.
We will be leaving The Tot Spot at 9AM. The play starts at 10AM. If you are meeting us there, find an usher and tell them you are with the Tot Spot and they will help you find your seat. The play is approximately 45 minutes. Permission slips will be sent out shortly and if you have any questions feel free to ask :) I believe ticket prices were $8.00 for children and $15 for adults. Ticket charges were billed March 2nd.
Healthy Start Wisdom
Healthy Start From Ms. Alisha
From Farm to Table! Now's the time to start planning that garden. When children help grow their own produce, they are more likely to eat it! Tot Spotters had the joy of eating snap peas, broccoli, tomatoes, and strawberries right off the vines. I was personally shocked at a few and would have never believed if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. If you don't wish to create a garden then you might take a weekly trip to the local farmer's market. This is a great way to get your kids interested in gardening and healthy eating.
Downtown Fisher's Market at 6 Municipal Drive, Fishers 46038 is every Saturday 8am-12pm Mid May-September.
Saxony Fishers Market (which was more booths and fun than food last time I went) at 131st & Olio Road, Fishers 46037 Saturdays 8am-12pm
The Book Nook
Ages 2 and Under:
2-3 year olds: Don't be a Bully Billy by Phil Roxbee Cox

The Parent's Spotlight!
The Teacher's Spotlight!!
If you had to pick one book to be a mandatory read in high school, what would it be?
Ms. Alisha: Mike and Corrine took my favorite book. So, I think the future of tomorrow should have to read and analyze every Dr. Suess book. You have the environment (Lorax), be optimistic (Oh, The Places), stay true to yourself (Horton), a little kindness can go a long way (The Grinch), and does being open-minded (Green Eggs and Ham), and what you'll find in most of his books..chill out, things are fun and fun is good (Red Fish), but be careful who you let into your world and don't get too crazy (The Cat in the Hat). And I could go on and on!
Mr. Mike: To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. You learn about diversity and not to judge a book by it's cover.
Ms. Le Andra: The book that I think should be read in high school is 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher. This book is about a girl named Hannah who commits suicide and leaves 13 tapes to different classmates about the story that lead her to commit suicide. It really makes you open up your eyes to what's going on around you. It's especially good for kids who are struggling and lets them know that they are not alone and there are other ways to getting through tough times besides ending your life. There have been a lot of suicides in my small town so maybe something as simple as this could help cut the numbers down.
Ms. Blue: I don't have a recommendation on a book to read, because I don't read books and it greatly disappoints Ms. Alisha and Ms. Le Andra!
Mrs. Diamond: Catch 22 is a great book about politics that I think high schoolers should read to get some kind of idea about politics outside of their government and econ class.
Ms. Corrine: I'd pick To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee because it teaches you not to judge people based on appearance or race. I think it's especially important for high schoolers to read so that they are able to be more accepting of others as they grow older and wiser!
