GMOs
Why They Help Us
Resistance
Genetically modified crops are more resistant to weather changes, herbicides/pesticides, and various other factors. This increases the crop yield. Also, modifying crops so that they're more resistant is a form of evolution and will help the plants survive.
Environment
Due to the fact that GMOs are resistant to pesticides, there will be no need to spray these areas with tons and tons of insect and plant killers. This way, farmers are using less chemicals, which affects the environment less. Also, by making GMOs sterile, this prevents the possibility of weeds and GMOs breeding.
Feeding the Hungry
GMOs result in higher yields and more crops grown, which provides more food for hungry people. Also, it has been proven that a higher percentage of GMOs survive than regularly grown crops. Therefore, if we want to maximize use of our lands, then planting GMOs would provide more food than regular plants, therefore being able to provide food to more people.
Safety
Contrary to what many people say, GMOs have been tested to ensure that they are safe for human consumption. Scientists perform various experiments such as acidity tests to make sure GMOs are safe. These genetically modified foods have also been checked and investigated by the FDA, EPA, and Department of Agriculture.
