Week of January 12-16
We had another fantastic week in Kindergarten! We learned all about diversity and that it is OK to be different!!
Please read below to find out what else we learned this week:
Language Arts:
- We reviewed the term animal fantasy. We read the trade book Little Quack. We learned the new amazing words: duckling, puddle, pond, brave, plunged, and proud.
- We discussed the main idea or plot of the story, the characters and setting.
- Students created story maps discussing the characters, setting and plot of the story.
Phonics Skills:
- We focused on Vowels and the long and short sound for each letter. We brainstormed words that have those sounds in them.
- Students will use their inventive spelling to write words with these letter sounds we also wrote the words in sentences.
Social Studies/ Science:
- We learned about diversity! We learned that we are not all alike and that it is OK to be different from our friends. We listened to a variety of books about being different.
Math:
- Students reviewed their numbers.
- We learned how to compose and decompose numbers to make new numbers.
- We completed problem solving activities and word problem to show a better understanding of these skills.
- We used the math terms: sum and how many in all.
- We learned to use the symbols of the plus sign and equals symbol.
21st learning:
- Students played rhyming games, phonics games, read online text and played math games on the I-pads and computers.

Discussing diversity
We discussed diversity in our classroom and how we are all different! We discussed it is OK to be different and how we are all FRIENDS!!!
Look at how DIVERSE we are!!
We worked very hard in math centers on learning our Addition facts!
We played a game called "Roll the dice" We had to roll 2 dice. Then, we added the dots on the dice to find the sum!
Ice Cream Addition Center
Students added the sum of two numbers to find the sum! Then they colored in the ice cream cone with the correct answer!
Story Maps
Students created story maps in their differentiated reading groups about the sequence of events, setting, characters and plot of the story!
REMINDERS:
- BARNES AND NOBLE NIGHT TONIGHT!!! See you, Chester, and all of our faculty and staff!
- No school Monday in observance of MLK day!
- Lizzy Carr will be principal on Friday! Students may dress down in pj's! There will be a special dance party for the girls and sports activity for the boys! We will also have a special all school movie in the afternoon!
- Next Saturday will be our ART SHOW GALLERY TOUR! Please visit our school between 1-2:30 and tour our school to see all of the wonderful and creative artwork your child has created this school year!!
