E-Learning
Thank you for continued support from home! We appreciate being able to connect with you as well as your child. The enhancement of family/staff collaboration has been one of our celebrations as we navigate this unique experience. As we move through April and an adjusted e-Learning schedule, teachers and staff are being mindful to balance instructional rigor supporting continued student growth with respect for families and the on-going challenges, travel restrictions and social distancing brings. Scheduling e-Learning three days a week should help this balance. In addition, teachers will begin considering ways they can engage with small groups of students as they present new learning experiences. On-going communication with your teachers is important so we can best support the needs of all students and families.
When we return to e-Learning on April 14, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher if you have questions or concerns. You can also reach out to other staff for support including:
Andrea Burke (principal) - aburke@hse.k12.in.us
Rebekah Landez (assistant principal) - rlandez@hse.k12.in.us
Bethany Magill (counselor) - rmagill@hse.k12.in.us
Kristen Morgan (teacher librarian) - kmorgan@hse.k12.in.us
Be safe! We look forward to the time we can see our kids again in person!

BoxTops contest!
Please send in any clipped BoxTops for Education and label with your classroom teacher name. If you are using the new app and scanning your BoxTops, there is a new feature on the box top app. You can now enter a group name when scanning receipts to keep track of individual groups within HPE. Enter classroom teacher name, not child's, so scanned box tops can be tracked as well for the classroom contest. The class with the most clipped and scanned BoxTops will be awarded a pizza party in the spring! Runner up classes will receive extra recess!

Easy Ways to Help the PTO
Cut your Box Tops for Education and send them to school with your student at any time. Visit www.boxtops4education.com for a list of products.
If you shop on Amazon or at Kroger, check out these completely free and zero effort ways to raise money for the HPE PTO. The prices are the same, the service is the same, you shop the same way, but a portion of the purchase price will be donated to the PTO, that’s it!
On Amazon, just go to smile.amazon.com/ch/20-0114174 to link your account to the PTO and then check out using smile.amazon.com everytime--you cannot access this through an app so fill up your cart and then open a browser to check out or shop directly on smile.amazon.com.
For Kroger, login to your online account or create one using the Kroger Plus Card number you already have or get a new one. Then go to www.kroger.com/communityrewards and enroll in Community Rewards. Search for “VA241” and select “HARRISON PARKWAY ELEMENTARY - PTO.” Then scan your Kroger Plus Card or enter your alternate ID every time you check out just like you always have.

Safe Visitor Badges
Per HSE Policy, visitors must have their Safe Visitor Badge scanned to check-in to the building. Please download the Safe Visitor App (IPhone) or have your badge ready and available to be scanned when you come into the school office. The app is in Google Play for other types of phones. To find the Safe Visitor app, search for “SafeVisitor” (there is no space in between the words).
Looking up names can lead to the wrong person being signed in. Upon leaving, please let the office staff know so they can sign you out.
If you have questions/concerns or need to have your badge re-emailed to you, please contact -Vicki Foutty at 317-594-4100.
Volunteering and the Background Check Process
Parents/visitors to HPE must have a background check on file with the school (including watching the anti-bullying video and completing the video survey) in order to volunteer in the school or to have lunch with a student. The link for the background check information can be found on link below at https://www.hseschools.org/services/other/school-safety/visiting-and-volunteering
The background checks are conducted by a 3rd party company, and there is a $13.00 fee for processing (payable online at the time of the application). Once completed, approved background checks are valid for a period of 3 years. Applicants will be notified via email when their background check has been completed and they will also notify people 30 days before their background check expires.
