Ranger News You Can Use! November 27, 2022

Message from Mr. Wahl, Principal

Dear Ranger Families,

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday break. This week is our second progress report for the second nine weeks of school. We will have three weeks of school remaining before the end of the Fall semester. Our Fall Semester Final Exam schedule is posted on our SVHS website and at the bottom of this newsletter for your convenience. As a reminder we do not have exam exemptions for any exams in the fall and we do not allow any early exams.

For all of our families who may have a 2023 Senior at SVHS, our graduation day and time has been set. The 2023 SVHS Graduation Ceremony will be Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. at Ranger Stadium. We are excited to share this news with you so you can begin the planning process.

Thank you and let's make it a great Ranger Week!

Mr. Wahl

Where do PTA funds go to in High School?

SVHS PTSA is an extremely active group on the SVHS campus. We provide scholarships for seniors, strive to fill all teacher/classroom requests, supply snacks for student events, throw monthly staff appreciation events, stock the workroom, bring food and other appreciation items for the bus drivers and custodians, participate in school programs, host the winter dance, and this year, we are hoping to bring in several interactive programs for the students.

**HOW TO RELEASE YOUR STUDENT EARLY AND MORE INFO**

SEND A NOTE TO RELEASE YOUR STUDENT: Send in a written note with your student indicating what time your student needs to leave campus and include a good contact phone number for the parent on your note.

Your student will bring in your note to the receptionist as soon as they arrive to school. The receptionist will exchange your written note for a green pass and give the green pass to your student.

FORGOT TO SEND NOTE:
If you forgot to send in a note with your student, please call us at 830-885-1000 as soon as you know your student has to leave. This will allow time for our front office staff to write a green pass and you can arrange to have your student stop by the front office to pick up their green pass during one of their passing periods during the school day.

LAST MINUTE CALL OUT: If you have a last minute or unplanned event for your student to leave school, it could take +- 30 minutes for our front office staff to process a pass (especially during 4th period lunches). We pride ourselves on our Customer Service at SVHS and we thank you in advance for your understanding that additional security measures in place also add additional time to our processes.

Please Do Not send an Email to release your student: Please do not send an email to release your student(s). The employee or employees you are emailing may be off campus, away from their desk, or unable to check their email to release your student.

4:05PM: Phone Call check outs will be cut off at 4:05pm

General Reminders

  • Our building opens at 8:25am every morning and students may go to their 1st period class upon entry to the building.
  • Front Office Phone hours are 8:15am - 4:45pm
  • Please do not order any outside food for your students during the school day, as we will not accept any outside deliveries (i.e. Pizza Deliveries, Door Dash, Grub Hub, etc).

Safety and Security

Safety and security is the #1 priority at Smithson Valley High School. Below are a few guidelines we want students to know that will help keep SVHS a safe campus:

  • Students and staff should wear their ID visibly at all times.
  • Students and staff should never prop open an exterior door.
  • Students must use designated campus entry points. Designated entry points are the front office and cafeteria in the mornings
  • Students should not let anyone in a door that is locked.
  • If students see something that is not right, please report it to an adult immediately. This can be face to face or through our Crime Stoppers app.

Happy Birthday Wishes and Shout Outs!!

We have multiple large TV Screens around our campus. As a school fundraiser and another way to celebrate your student, we are selling Birthday Wishes and Shout Outs on our TVs.

For $20 you can send us your student's name, Birthday, special Shout Out, and even a picture. We will wish your student a Happy Birthday or give them a Shout Out - ALL WEEK on our TV monitors. If you're interested in celebrating your student, please email Stephanie Kirkpatrick

Requests and payment must be submitted by Friday at noon - the week Prior to the Birthday Wishes / Shout Outs. The $20 is payable in cash or a check made out to SVHS and can be paid to the bookkeeper in the front office. Any money collected will be spent on the student body during the school year.
