What to Say to Students...
As all of you know Monday the 29th was a very hard day for all of us, students, staff and families. Our sense of presumed safety was shaken. As we grapple with each day, we wanted to give you resources at home to support our students. We know that we are keeping an extra close eye on students showing stress and the needs for additional supports. We wanted to be able to provide supports for you, at home, as well.
This was a blurb from a mental health resource we found:
Talk with students and validate their feelings. Let their questions guide what and how much information to provide, be open to opportunities to talk when they are ready and emphasize the positive things that child/family/school can do to stay safe.
Be patient. Children and youth do not always talk about their feelings readily. Watch for clues that they may want to talk, such as hovering around while you do the dishes or yard work. Some children prefer writing, playing music, or doing an art project as an outlet. Young children may need concrete activities (such as drawing, looking at picture books, or imaginative play) to help them identify and express their feelings.
Be aware of signs that a student might be in distress, e.g., changes in behavior, anxiety, sleep problems, acting out, problems at school or with academic work. Also be conscious of media exposure and what you say about the event. Limit television viewing (be aware if the television is on in common areas).
Following are some suggested general key points when talking to students:
- · Schools are safe places. Our school staff works with local police and fire departments, emergency responders, and hospitals to keep you safe.
- · Our school is safe because….
- · We all play a role in school safety. Be observant and let an adult know if you see or hear something that makes you feel uncomfortable, nervous or frightened.
- · There is a difference between reporting, tattling or gossiping. You can provide important information that may prevent harm either directly or anonymously by telling a trusted adult what you know or hear.
- · Although there is no absolute guarantee that something bad will never happen, it is important to understand the difference between the possibility of something happening and probability that it will affect you or our school.
- · Senseless violence is hard for everyone to understand. Doing things that you enjoy, sticking to your normal routine, and being with friends and family help make us feel better and keep us from worrying about the event.
- · Adults (parents, teachers, police officers, doctors, faith leaders) work very hard to get people help when it is needed. It is important for all of us to know how to get help.
- · Make sure all guns in the home are secured and if families have guns that the rules are very clear about them.
Lincoln Families
Most importantly- talk to your child and remind them how much they are loved. Building strong communication and a deep trusting relationship... even on hard subjects made sure that Monday's outcome was not worse. There are many people to thank and many people that will need to have your continued support. I wanted to express my gratitude for all of the families that have supported our Lincoln School family this week. Your kind words, messages, hugs and caring actions have helped us tremendously.
Thank you from all of Lincoln's Amazing staff!
We have an AMAZING school and it because of our students, staff and families like you that work together and make a positive difference in our students lives each day!!!
THANK YOU!!!
Ms. Kiser

Weekly Building COVID Communication
Greetings Lincoln staff and families,
The week of November 29th, Lincoln had five positive student and staff COVID-19 cases. Out of those cases, one had close contacts due to school or school related activities or athletics. Lincoln administration has reached out to all those deemed close contacts. If you have not been contacted, you or your student are not identified as a close contact in the school setting.
Close contacts include students and staff members who were within six (6) feet of the individual for at least 15 cumulative minutes in a classroom or in other school spaces. Due to guidelines from the North Dakota Department of Health, if the close contact is fully vaccinated OR the close contact and the positive individual were both wearing masks, the close contact does not need to quarantine if asymptomatic.
Sincerely,
Principal Kiser
PTA- Popcorn Pride Days are Back!!!
Lincoln PTA is bringing back Popcorn Fridays! Starting in December, popcorn will be given out at school ONE Friday a month for the rest of the school year. Please join us on Thursday, Dec. 16th at 1:00 p.m. at Lincoln to learn how to use the popcorn machine and prepare popcorn for our first Popcorn Friday of the year.
This will be our training event. You will learn how to use the popcorn machine and bag popcorn for Friday. At this event, we will have a sign up sheet for volunteers to sign up for upcoming months. You do not need to commit to helping every month! We hope to train many volunteers to help rotate through the months. Grandparents or other family members available during the school hours are welcome to volunteer too! You do not need to be a PTA member to help out.

COVID Voluntary Parent Forms
Fargo Public Schools is providing parents and guardians with a process to attach COVID-related paperwork to your student's PowerSchool account. The first form allows a parent to grant consent for the school to administer a COVID test to their child if the child is deemed a close contact. The test will be at school and administered by trained FPS staff (Nurse, Medic or Athletic Trainer). The second form a parent or guardian may provide is the COVID vaccination card. The vaccination card will only be used to verify your child's vaccination status if your child is deemed a close contact at school. It will allow the student to remain in school if they have no symptoms.
Note: On-site testing is in development and will begin when the qualified staff has been hired.
There are two new release forms parents/guardians can complete in PowerSchool. Both are voluntary.
- “COVID Test Consent Form” - To grant permission to the school to give your child a COVID test.
- “COVID Voluntary Vaccine Status Reporting Form” - To provide a copy of your child’s completed COVID vaccination form, for use in determining quarantine rules if your child is identified as a close contact.
Both forms are available in PowerSchool Parent, where other required forms are completed each summer.
- From the Fargo Public Schools website, click the PowerSchool icon.
- Log in with your PowerSchool Parent username and password and click Sign In.
- Select the student you want to work with at the top of the screen, then 2 click Forms on the left side menu. In the middle of the screen, you will see a COVID category with the two forms. 3 Click each form to review and submit, if you choose to do so for that child.
FPS COVID-19 testing program
Students and staff should park on the North side of the building and enter through door 4.
Students and staff may test here for the close contact testing or for individuals who want to test on a regular basis.
This is not for symptomatic individuals. Symptomatic individuals should get a PCR test from their healthcare provider or Fargo Cass Public Health.
Use the QR code before coming to testing. This is a different registration link than the Fargo Cass testing

Written Notification of School Accountability Report
Transparency to the Public
North Dakota is committed to informing communities about how well its schools are doing. North Dakota's future success depends on preparing students to graduate choice ready with the knowledge, skills, and desire to be successful. State education departments require accountability reports for every public school in the state. The School Accountability Report outlines how schools are performing on the elements North Dakota selected within its ESSA plan.
North Dakota has a public dashboard designed to help communities across the state access important data in K-12 districts and schools, including COVID-19 Response. Insights feature easy-to-read reports on many measures of school success, including test scores,
graduation rates, English Learner progress, student engagement results, and state accountability.
To find out information about our school, visit the dashboard at insights.nd.gov, select "Find My School", and search alphabetically. Please note, data made available to the public hides data for groups with less than 10 students to protect private information about individual students and will say "no data available".
Family Engagement
We have district plans for working to continuously improve educational programs at our schools. We would like you and your child(ren) to continue to be active in our educational system. Please help support our high expectations for student learning by participating in school initiatives, offering input and support in our educational goals to raise student achievement, and volunteering at school.
