Christmas at SMS

Christmas Concert Highlights

SMS celebrated Christmas together with the school community on December 12th, with two concerts, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. Thank you Grade 7 and 8 Concert Bands, and Grade 6 Recorder Ensemble, for your excellent performances. You definitely got us in the Christmas spirit! Many thanks to Mr. Markus Goertzen, Band and Music Instructor, for all the hard work he put into preparing the students to perform for us.

Thank you to the Art Classes for the decorations that were created and displayed in the foyer and gym . Your beautiful work added to the festive feeling. Thanks also to Mrs. Annette Loewen, Art Instructor, who guided these students in this work.

We love to showcase all the Arts in our school - music and band as well as creative art!

Thank you to all the students who put their best into their performance as well, and to our parents who support our students in these achievements.

Helping Hands

Some students had the opportunity to go to Southeast Helping Hands to help pack Christmas hampers. What a wonderful experience for them to see the process of how to fill hampers, what goes into a hamper, and to be aware that there are families in our community that have need of this service. Our community is fortunate to have so many helping hands, and we were excited to have been able to be a few of them!

Thank you for supporting our Book Fair!

The SMS Scholastic Book Fair was a great success - we sold over $3100!! This will give our school many free books to add to our library. Thank you so much for your support! Thanks also to Mrs. Monkman, Mrs. King, Mrs. Desautels and Ms. Lavallee and all the students who helped out at the Fair.

PAC Chocolate Fundraiser

Thank you to all the students who sold, sold, sold chocolates during some very cold, wet and snowy days in December. We were busy handing out prizes every day to these hard working students. Congratulations to Elias K who won the "Most Chocolates Sold" prize. Our Fundraiser Temperature Gauge is rising!

Tabs for Wheelchairs

Our school has been collecting soda can tabs for the program "Tabs for Wheelchairs". If you would be interested in saving your tabs and sending them to school, we will gladly accept them and send them on to this worthwhile project. Currently the Tabs for Wheelchairs program is collecting tabs to present a wheelchair to a a Grade 1 student from Brandon, MB. They are planning to present Scarlett with this specialized wheelchair in June of 2019!

Thank you for your support!

Chase the Ace

Every Monday night at Smitty's in Steinbach, SMS PAC is hosting a "Chase the Ace" event from 7-9 pm to raise more funds for the SMS Activity Structure Fund.

Rules and Regulations of Chase the Ace:

Participants buy five-dollar tickets and are entered in a draw. SMS PAC Organizers select one ticket from the pool, and the winner automatically gets 20 per cent of the money that's been raised that evening. Meanwhile, 50 per cent of the money goes to our Activity Structure Fund, and the remaining 30 per cent is added to the building jackpot.

In addition to winning 20 per cent of the money, the winning-ticket holder is invited to draw a card from a standard 52-card deck. If they draw the ace of spades, they win the jackpot.

The game continues (every Monday night at Smitty's, except for Monday, January 21st) until the ace of spades is drawn. Who knows how big the jackpot could get??

Please come out, have a little bit of fun and a chance to win some money AND help our Fundraiser out at the same time!

See you at Smitty's Monday nights at 7 pm!!

Keeping Our Students Safe

Please remember to slow down when passing SMS on Lumber Avenue during the school day (speed zone of 30 kms/hr).

Please drop your child off on the south side of Lumber. Students running across the street and drivers stopping traffic increases the risk of accidents and injuries.

Encourage your child to use the cross walk when crossing Lumber Avenue, and to make use of our crossing guards when crossing Brandt Street or Barkman Avenue.

It's Cold Outside!

Remember to wear warm outer clothing to school so that you can enjoy some outdoor recess time at lunch! It's great to get a little fresh air during the day!
