Class of 2021
May Newsletter
SK Seniors and Families:
Last week we were finally able to share plans that we have been working on for several months now, celebrating the Class of 2021 Graduation in June at Cheney Stadium. We realize that the announcement was bitter-sweet news for many. On the one hand the students will be recognized for the culmination of the past thirteen years of hard work and achievement and they will be able to walk as a class together to receive their diplomas. On the other, the restrictions on seating capacity for outdoor venues and events is far from ideal, with students currently only being able to invite 2 guests. Being an outdoor venue, Cheney Stadium offers us significantly more guest capacity than the Tacoma Dome even if it falls short of what we may have hoped for when we began looking for a better venue months ago.
Stay optimistic! We have time yet, capacity is not set in stone and we continue to communicate with Cheney Stadium management on the logistics as updates from the Governor’s office are released.
What do we know?
Graduates will arrive at 10 a.m. and will stage on the 1st and 3rd base sides of the stadium.
At 11 a.m. the gates will open for spectators. Tickets will be reserved seating only in 2-seat pods.
The ceremony will begin at Noon.
Graduates will be seated in the infield, socially distanced and will receive their diploma from a podium placed over Homeplate, which will be pretty special and memorable.
Cheney Stadium will live stream the event for those not able to attend in person.
The show will go on “rain or shine”
We are following Governor Inslee’s Healthy Washington Roadmap to Recovery guidance for planning this in person graduation, this guidance limits capacity depending on which phase Pierce county is in. While we want to stay hopeful and have reserved seating in 4-seat pods planned out, if the county goes backward in phases, we may also have to limit capacity further. Families should plan accordingly and be ready to make adjustments closer to June 19.

How do I request a transcript?
1. When you create your Parchment account and request a transcript, our Registrar is notified.
2. Your request will be approved within 24 hours unless you owe any fines/fees to SKHS.
3. Upon verification, your transcript is sent automatically.
Click here for instructions on requesting a final transcript remember to select "HOLD FOR GRADES"
Diplomas are prepared AFTER school is out for the summer and are available for PICK UP ONLY by the graduate usually by the middle to end of July.
