Curriculum Updates and Activities
Weekly Math Update
This is our final week of Numbers & Operations with addition and subtraction up to 1,000 and story problems up to 200. Students have worked very hard to practice and consolidate strategies. The final assessment is this Thursday, right before spring break.
Weekly Social Studies Update
- We our unit on Mapping & Landforms. Students watched BrainpopJr videos and are learning more about maps as well as land forms such as mountains, rivers, valleys, lakes, etc. We will learn about how people interact with landforms and why people live where they live.
Weekly Reading and Writing Update
Our opinion writing unit concluded Thursday when we enjoyed some wonderful sharing with room 2D. We talked about why it's important as writers to share our writing and get feedback from others. Topics ranged from "Dogs vs. Cats," "Onions Are the Best Vegetable," and "Why We Should Have More Recess."
We're currently studying about poetry in reading and writing.while immersing ourselves in different genres of poems. We're also learning about poetic devices such as similes and onomatopoeia. A wonderful website to investigate is Kenn Nesbitt's poetry website. http://www.poetry4kids.com/
