RBBCSC's Response Plan for the Coronavirus (COVID-19)
This letter was sent out via email from Dr. Sanders on Friday, March 6.
Dear RBB School Community,
On behalf of the Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corporation, I want to thank you for the opportunity to provide your sons and daughters with a healthy and safe learning environment. For this reason, RBBCSC regularly monitors the seriousness of an active flu season, the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), or other communicable illnesses.
Resources
To assist our school community in understanding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and how to protect our families from this illness, please refer to the following sites:
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Indiana State Department of Health
Monroe County Health Department
Prevention
RBBCSC will encourage students and staff to practice the following good health hygiene to prevent the spread of any illness, including viruses:
Thoroughly wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IisgnbMfKvI)
If soap and water are not available, use a 60% or higher alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Stay home when experiencing symptoms such as fever or vomiting (symptoms should be gone for 24 hours, without using medications, before returning to school);
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
Guidance
RBBCSC will continually remind students of best practice hygiene through classroom instruction, school-wide announcements, and strategically placed posters (See Attachment) around our schools.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, call your healthcare professional if you feel sick with fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, and have been in close contact with a person known to have Coronavirus (COVID-19), or if you live in or have recently traveled from an area with ongoing spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Your healthcare professional will work with your state’s public health department and CDC to determine if you need to be tested for Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Next Steps
RBBCSC will continue the following:
Monitor the Coronavirus situation around the world and potentially in our own community.
Work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Indiana State Department of Health, and the Monroe Department of Health.
Use deep cleaning best practices in our schools and on our buses.
Communicate with students, parents, staff, and the community.
Contingency Learning Plan: Preparing for Possibility of an Extended School Closure
What happens if a possible closure of school for an extended time becomes imminent?
Edgewood schools will work with families to return medication prior to closure.
RBBCSC will communicate the following plan to deliver instruction to students if school would close for an extended time:
RBBCSC will deliver instruction through regular eLearning Day practices.
Teachers will be available (email or phone) for student-parent-teacher communication throughout the hours of a regular school day.
Other accommodations will be developed for families without Internet access. Details of accommodations will be communicated once we know the extent of the potential school closings.
In the event that Edgewood Early Childhood Center is closed, families will be credited for any days their child would have attended preschool.
RBBCSC participated in a meeting with the Monroe County School Safety Committee this morning to discuss our response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). We will continue working with the different agencies that make up this committee.
RBBCSC will do our best to be proactive in our decision making as we monitor further developments.
Thank you for being such valuable partners!
Sincerely,
Dr. Sanders, Superintendent
