Hello, Eight Corners Families!
The Specialist Team has been working hard this year to reimagine the way we teach in order to maintain a safe and healthy environment for our young learners.
Scheduling specials for this year presented us with some unique challenges. Due to splitting classes into Cohort A&B, we had -twice- the typical number of classes to fit into our schedules!
Our goals for this year’s schedule were as follows:
1. Keep everyone as safe as possible.
2. Give the students a sense of routine and normalcy.
3. Make learning as effective, impactful, and fun as possible.
To make our teaching more impactful, and to limit the spread of the virus across the school, we decided to run our classes in four sessions, or quarters. We also created “pods” of classes. Because students are having the same special 2x/week in small groups, we are finding that they are actually retaining more than they do in a typical year! There is also more opportunity for individual attention and differentiation. We are happy with how this plan is working and plan to continue it for the rest of the year.
This week marks our last two classes with our “Session 1” students. On Monday, November 16, we will transition to “Session 2”. We’ve attached a PDF of the rotation for the rest of the year to help you with your planning. It also shows when you can expect to see information about specials classes on your child’s report cards.
Warmly,
Mrs. Andrews, Art
