Principal's Message
Since the SD308 PRIDE Recognition program started, we have nominated a number of people for recognition and every month we would see staff from around the district get recognized with nary a Maverick in sight.
Until this week.
I'm not sure if it has to do with the number of people who recognized her or someone wrote a particularly strong nomination. Whatever the case, we are proud of Ms. Liskunas and thank any and every one who nominated her for the award.
Ms. Liskunas does great work. But beyond that, she goes above and beyond for students and families each and every day. She will use her time to work with a student who is struggling in school to get caught up. She will write letters and make calls to get donations for events and help us organize fundraisers. She'll go on the hunt for lost items and she will do all of this, every day, with a smile on her face.

Activity Buses Coming to Murphy
We're excited to announce that starting the week of February 27, we will be offering activity buses for students on Tuesday and Thursday. Students who need to stay or are participating in some after school club or activity can get bus transportation (assuming their home is already receiving bus service) NEAR their home. One bus will serve the Grande Park area that has bus service, Prescott Mills and Auburn Lakes. The other bus will serve the Homestead area. More information on specific stops can be found here.
Look for an update on process to get a bus pass next week.

PTO Update
PTO Skating Event - TIME CHANGE!!!!
In order to better accommodate families, the event start time moved to 6pm to allow parents more time to get their students to the rink.
The students have spoken...no Spring Dance! We are planning our first ever ROLLER SKATING night instead!! Mark your calendars! Tuesday February 21st from 6-8pm at Aurora Skate Center. The PTO is sponsoring this FREE event as our way of saying thanks for all you've done to support us this year!
We need to get an accurate head count to ensure the rink has enough staff on hand. Therefore, we will need to "sell" tickets the week before. Students will pay $2 for their ticket, parents will sign the waiver on the back of the ticket (just like you do for dances and other PTO-sponsored events). When the students arrive at the rink, they will turn in their ticket (signed waiver on the back) and we will return their $2. Skate rental is FREE as well!
Ticket sales will take place during the lunch periods on Monday 2/13 and Tuesday 2/14. TICKETS CANNOT BE SOLD AT THE DOOR! Look for updates on our PTO Facebook Page (Murphy PTO Home of the Mavericks) and via the Bulletin.
Save the Date
That changed recently when Portillo's started doing fundraising nights. We asked ourselves, "Who doesn't love Portillo's?" In an informal poll in the office area, the answer was 0% of people dislike Portillo's.
SAVE THE DATE Murphy Junior High Portillo's Night will be March 2nd from 5 to 8pm at the Portillo's on Rte 34 in Oswego. Any money we raise will go toward helping supply the Maverick Minimall and to offset the cost of our celebration activities related to PBIS.
We hope you and your family will make every attempt to swing buy. This fundraiser includes: dine in, carry out and drive through purchases.

7th Grade
Last weekend, the 7th grade lady Mavericks played three games in the Kaneland tournament. In their first game, the Mavericks demonstrated their shooting skills and came away with a 30 to 15 victory over Geneva North. In the late game Friday night, the Mavericks held tough through the first have against Wredling. In the second half, the Wredling's speed wore down the Mavericks, who suffered a 16 to 31 loss. The Mavericks didn't get much rest and returned to play Rotolo Red in the first game Saturday morning. The Mavericks held a 6 point lead at halftime, but Rotolo toughened their defense in the second half. The Mavericks played hard, but came up short in a 23 to 17 loss. Lauren Salerno, Hannah Chval, and Megan Ferry were named to the all tournament team.
On Tuesday night the 7th grade lady Mavericks suffered a tough 14 to 28 loss to Bednarcik. Lauren Salerno led the Maverick scoring with 10 points.
In an exciting second game, the Mavericks played a game that went down to the final seconds. Fortunately, the Mavericks were able to hold on for a 15 to 14 victory. Kameil Hollman led the scoring with 4 points, while Hannah Martynus added 3.
8th Grade
On Tuesday night the Murphy girls took on our revivals Bednarcik. It was a close game the entire time. The score went back and fourth until the fourth quarter when we took the lead by three with 1 minute left and held that lead until the end. Winning by three. Leading scores where Kaliey with 11 and Kate with 4.
The second game was a close one until the 3rd quarter where Bednarcik went on a 10 point run. We pulled back within 6 but it was too late. Leading scores where Lauren with 8 and Makeda with 2. Great job ladies!
