School Library Month

Limitless Libraries is holding two contests relating to School Library Month. A School Library Challenge and a Bookmark decorating contest. Both are underway! Students can return completed challenges and bookmarks to the library anytime. April 25 is the last day to turn them in.

Library Business

  • Brand new books--We have a cart full of brand new library books! They are being used as an incentive for Reading Bingo (participants will be among the first students who can check them out) but teachers also have first priority in checking out the new books. Stop by and take a look! Many of them are on subjects that have been requested throughout the year.

HMH Think Central - Journeys

Think Central is the online resource that accompanies the Journeys reading series. I went to a training a few weeks ago to learn more about Think Central. The district is wanting librarians to be the resource for it at each school.

Think Central website: https://www-k6.thinkcentral.com/ePC/login.do

Select “Tennessee”, “Metro Nashville….” and your school and enter your credentials.

Please go ahead and try logging in and take a look around. Your username should already have been emailed to you, but if you don't have it just let me know and I can look it up. In most cases the username is the first letter of your first name, and then your last name. Passwords are simply "Password" unless you have already logged in and changed it.

Check out mnps.idlearningtech.org for more information.

Let me know if you need any help or have questions!

Get Caught Reading

I would like to create a display around the library doors of photos of students "found" or "caught" reading. If you have any photo opportunities in your classroom, please take a quick snapshot and email it to me. Camera or cell phone photos are fine. I will be on the look out as well! Thank you!

National Poetry Month

Poem In Your Pocket Day will be on Thursday, April 24. Here is a link to the webpage for it. http://www.poets.org/page.php/prmID/406 Basically, everyone will be encouraged to keep a favorite poem on a slip of paper in his or her pocket. (Teachers, students, and staff). Then throughout the day, people can share their poems with each other.

The Dewey Club

More students have picked up a Dewey Club booklet and are beginning to work their way through the nonfiction section! Please encourage your students who have started to see it through and finish!

Reading Bingo

Interest in Reading Bingo has grown as well! Kindergarten and first grade classes are welcome to fill in the cards as a whole class. Many of the stories you already use for read alouds will work.
