Students will learn about service, leadership, philanthropy and how they can make a difference by changing patients’ lives. TCE has its own online giving page that students, parents and faculty can share with friends and family: http://events.lls.org/pages/in/ThorpeCreekElementarySchool

We are Learning...
We will continue our study of nonfiction texts. We will be learning how to gather information from informational texts so that we can become experts on a topic. We will focus on various nonfiction features and study them in more detail.
Math:
We will finish up Subtraction with/without regrouping and move on to our next topic on place value to 1,000. We will be using words, models, standard form and expanded form to represent numbers to 1,000. We will also be using our understanding of the hundreds, tens, and ones digits to compare two three-digit numbers.
Writing:
We will continue our unit on nonfiction writing texts. Students will continue to research, gather, and write down information to help them write their nonfiction books.
Science:
We will continue our study of forces and motion. We will study how objects move in different ways such as straight, backwards, back-and-forth, etc. We will also be studying how applied forces such as a push or pull can change the motion of objects.
Word Study:
Word study in 2nd grade includes spelling, phonics, and vocabulary development. We will be focusing on 11 new vocabulary words. Those words are: friction, motion, speed, force, zig-zag, position, direction, gravity, magnetism, attract, and repel.
