Principal's Message
As we finish our last week of 1/3/5 classes and look forward to our 2/4/6 classes beginning May 17th, I want to encourage students to really focus this week and get all the work completed for their current classes so they don't have to worry about their 1/3/5 classes when we transition to 2/4/6 classes. Speaking of May 17th, there will be no extra support offered from 1:15pm to 2:30pm that week. All students will be dismissed from school at 12:40pm Monday through Thursday. There is no school for all students on Friday, May 21st.
The transition to our last cycle of classes means the end of the school year is approaching. There is information provided in this week's newsletter about some of our end-of-the-year activities, including the MHS Class of 2021 Graduation and MHS Senior Class Banquet.
Activities at the end of the year include looking forward to next fall. The counselors are working on the schedule for classes for next year. Meridian High School, along with all buildings in the district, is planning to return to our normal, pre-pandemic school programming for the next school year. As we go over details for next year, if you know friends or families who may be interested in having their student attend Meridian schools next school year who don't live inside the district boundaries, please share the link https://www.meridian.wednet.edu/choice-transfer/ with them which provides information on how to transfer to Meridian.
If you have further questions about the work taking place on campus this spring please contact me by email at dforbes@meridian.wednet.edu or by phone at 360-398-8111.
Stay healthy. Stay safe. Go Trojans.

Seniors Attending College Next Year
Most of you are aware of the changes that have been made regarding SAT/ACT becoming optional at many colleges and universities for next year. We hope you are also following the colleges that are requiring the Covid vaccinations to attend https://www.bestcolleges.com/blog/list-of-colleges-that-require-covid-19-vaccine/
If you do not see your prospective college on this list you could also call the institution to double check. Western Washington University is not on this list yet but they made the announcement yesterday.
Winter Sports are Here!
Eligibility:
In order to be eligible to participate in winter sports all students need to check that they have their eligibility paperwork turned in. Please email Mrs. Heslep gheslep@meridian.wednet.edu to check your eligibility status. Paperwork is available online through Skyward.
Wrestling:
In order to be able to wrestle this year, all wrestlers will have to be rapid-covid-tested twice weekly. Student athletes who are fully vaccinated do not need to be rapid-covid-tested. Coaches and staff at Meridian will be doing the rapid-covid-testing on site before wrestling matches.
Traveling fans for all sports:
Traveling fans will be permitted at most venues this year but will be limited to 2 family members per athlete. Coaches will be asking for names of family members so they can add them to our list. This is a fluid situation and we ask for patience during this process. Not all venues will have the ability to hold visiting fans.
Home Fans for all sports:
Home fans will be permitted to attend winter sporting events this season, but we are very limited on capacity. The Athletic Department will be posting the link to sign up every week. This will be first come first serve.
Covid 19 protocols:
Masks and social distancing will be required at all events. If fans do not follow Covid-19 protocols they will not be permitted to attend games and will be asked to leave.
Tickets and viewing the game from home:
There will be no cost for attending games this season, and we will be streaming all home games on justagamelive.com. All other venues will have the ability to stream games so every fan can watch from home.

Important Message from the District Nurse
Dear Meridian Families,
Should it be necessary for your child to be tested for Covid-19, please be aware that we require a lab verified test result. Due to a high instance of false negative results we cannot accept an antigen, or rapid, test result. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Here is a link for lab verified testing sites in our area www.testdirectly.com We appreciate your efforts to ensure a safe school environment for all.

National Chocolate Chip Day
Chocolate chips actually came after the chocolate chip cookie. Legend has it that the chocolate chip cookie was a happy accident, born when baker ran out of baker’s chocolate and opted for semi-sweet instead.
The recipe spread like wildfire, and after a few years of selling their semi-sweet chocolate bars with a chopping tool (for easy chunking of the bar), Nestlé went one step further by introducing chocolate “morsels” to the world. With such a history, and with so much mass appeal, it’s no surprise that this kitchen delight deserves celebration, and that’s why, on May 15, we’ve got National Chocolate Chip Day.
