Romanticism & Civil Disobedience
And the search for peace from two men
Letter to Henry David Thoreau
Dear Mr. Thoreau,
You have a lot of great ideas about government, and how government should be. I agree with a lot of things you have said about government. The thing about government, is, they can really take over. But also, there are limits for them, which they would have to follow. The things you have said about government, has persuaded me to believe that if government wanted to be fair, it shouldn’t govern at all. I think that everyone should pay taxes to support each other. Therefore, I think that the schoolmaster should pay taxes also to support you too. What you have said, “Why has every man a conscience then? I think that we should be men first, and subjects afterward.” I agree with what you have said there, because if men were to become subjects first, they wouldn’t agree with each other rather than denying each other’s ideas about government. When you said that quote, I think that you have tried to say that the men, should be men first as in working together to form a government rather than having many random ideas about government and how it should be controlled. When you were sent to jail, or prison, I think you did the right thing not to pay the taxes. The prison experience has changed the way you view prison, even if it was in one day. I think back in the day, you did the right thing, because people should support everyone else, not just one person or company.Idealism
Quote
"Reality is what people who lack vision see"- Mokokoma MokhonoanaResponse to quote
think what this quote is trying to say is that they people who lack vision, lack vision of the future or the good things that can happen in the future. I think that this quote goes with idealism because it has the idea that is saying that people who lack vision, doesn't have the vision to seeing a good future and they can only see what is happening in reality I think that this quote has a lot of meaning to it and describes people who doesn't see the future positively.
Individualism
Definition
The habit or principle of being independent and self-reliant.
Quote
"A child who does not think about whats happening around him and is content with living without wondering whether he lives honestly is like a man who lives from a scoundrels work and is on the road to being a scoundrel."-José MartiResponse to quote
I believe that this quote relates to individualism. I believe that because young individualists could grow up to not be honest. It may lead to the child growing up or the road for the child to become a scoundrel, which is someone who is dishonest. The child being dishonest, may lead to a lot of things in his/her life. Also, if he doesn't realize what is around him, or surrounds him, he may not realize what s/he is doing to society.
Optimism
Definition
hopefullness and confidence about the future the successful outcome of something.
Quote
"Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement.Nothing can be done without hope and confidence."-Helen Keller
Response to quote
I believe that without any hope or confidence, nothing can be completed or finished. I believe that I am optimistic. Confidence is part of an achievement, therefore, and optimistic person achieves goals with confidence. This quote goes with optimism because it explains and tells what optimism is, and how it goes with achievement. Hope and confidences is the key to achievement. Also, optimism is and excited of confident about the future. Therefore, I am an optimist because I am confident about the future.
Intuition
Definition
The ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning.
Quote
"When you reach the end of what you should know, you will be at the beginning got what you should sense."-Kahlil GilbranResponse to quote
I agree with what Kahlil Gilbran's quote is trying say. In Kahlil's quote, he is trying to say that when you are getting to the end of something that you know, it is the beginning of time that you should start to feel it and sense it, and not only knowing it. I agree with Kahlil Gibran's quote is trying to say about intuition. Intuition is something that you remember instantly without trying to remember it and just goes to you naturally.
