Team Storey/Murphy
Week of January 4, 2021
Message from the Teachers
We are so excited to be back with the students this week. We will be learning remotely for the entire week before returning to the hybrid schedule next Monday on 1/11/21.
We will begin the week by reviewing classroom expectations for both online and in-person learning. Students are encouraged to find a workspace that will enable them to do their best, preferably at a hard surface for writing and seated in a chair so that they are comfortable. We allow time for lots of wiggle breaks and also time away from the screen during our meetings.
Please take a moment to review the attendance policy that was sent out to all families. Students will continue to be marked absent if their cameras are off and there is no participation in our Zoom meetings. Thank you for your support in working together to ensure the best possible learning experience for your child!
One Word for Kids!
Following the story, the students will brainstorm their "one word" for the new year and write about why they chose that particular word. They will have the opportunity to share their ideas with the class on Friday. We are so excited to find out what each student's "one word" will be!
Math
We continue to work on strategies for multiplying and dividing. Below is an overview of our Math lessons this week. Please continue to have your child practice basic multiplication/division facts each day to increase fact fluency.

- Please click on the Family Letter below to read about the concepts/skills that will be covered in this Unit.
- Students should come to our Zoom meetings prepared with whiteboard, dry erase marker, and Fundations notebook
Reading
Our class will begin reading the biography Snowflake Bentley. It tells the story of a scientist who lived in Vermont and developed a love for snow as a young boy. He spent much of his life trying to capture photographs of snowflakes to share with the world.
Throughout the text, we will continue to work on comprehension skills. Most importantly, we will discuss the author's purpose for writing this particular book. Following the reading each day, the students will be assigned a reading question to respond to in Seesaw. They are instructed to answer in complete sentences, citing text evidence when necessary.
