From the Principal's Desk

Hello Rose Pioneer Families!

Seeing so many students, families, and staff at Dr. Laura Legant's funeral on Saturday is a testament to the legacy she left with Holly Area Schools. Dr. Legant was a dedicated teacher and worked for many years with both our special education and Kindergarten students at Rose Pioneer. She will certainly be missed but never forgotten!

If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a cafeteria/recess supervisor, please have her/him contact the office, (248) 328-3800, to discuss immediate openings at Rose Pioneer. This position offers a unique opportunity to work 3.5 hours per day on our students' school schedule.

Please be reminded that next Friday, February 3rd is a half-day for students. It is also Popcorn Friday at Rose Pioneer. If you are a parent or family member who is interested in helping Pioneer Parents on Popcorn Fridays, please join the "Rose Pioneer Parents" facebook page.

HAS Food Services is reintroducing snacks that students can purchase during lunch. Snacks such as chips, pop tarts, goldfish crackers, and fruit snacks are now available at a cost of either .50 or .75 cents. Occasionally, special snacks will be offered for $1.00. Lunch accounts must be current (snacks cannot be charged) and students who receive free & reduced lunch must also pay for snacks or extra milk. Students can bring money to the office to add to their account, or parents can refer to our online payment option by visiting the "food services payment" tab at:

https://www.hask12.org/departments/food-services/ Any parent who would prefer that their child not be allowed to buy snacks can contact food services at 248.328.3036 and ask that a notation is made in their child's account.

As we head into the stretch between the start of new year and spring break, please be reminded of a couple of important items. Remind and other texting apps make it quick and easy to communicate with teachers, but please be sure to contact the office anytime your child is going to be out sick, or if a change needs to be made to their daily pick up or latchkey. If it's after hours, a message can be left on the attendance line at 248.328.3814. We are doing a great job of reaching our building attendance goal this year. Please continue to send your child to school unless s/he is sick or has a doctor's appointment. Thank you!

Students must be dressed for outside weather every day at school since they spend a minimum of 25 minutes outside on the playground for recess and this is also a safety concern in the event of an emergency requiring us to vacate the building. Our play pad on the large playground is generally plowed during heavier snow, but students are also encouraged to wear boots and snow pants in order to play in the snow and avoid coming in wet from recess. We appreciate parents ensuring that children leave the house dressed for the winter weather each day.

If you aren't already connected, please like Rose Pioneer Elementary School on Facebook and @RosePioneerEl on Twitter.

Thank you for reading and have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Michael Beattie
