DAVIS HILL COMMUNITY UPDATE

Dear Davis Hill Community,

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer! Quick DHUpdate below. This will be my last update for a few weeks (most likely) as I take a few days away and continue to 'catch up' from an exceedingly busy (but awesome) school year!

For our 5th Grade Families- most likely this will be the last DHUpdate. We'll miss our DHDragons and families from the class of 2023! Best wishes and please stay in touch! #OnceADragonAlwaysADragon!

For our incoming K Students and the rest of our DHDragons... Please stay tuned over the summer for more information. Please see the 'Summer Version" of the Update below for basic info. Please keep in mind that classroom/ homeroom/ teacher placement is not finalized until late August (I will send the exact date that classroom assignments are considered final in a future update).

As a part of the work of our Recess/ Playground Committee, we (Thanks Mrs. P) have developed the following survey and are looking for feedback from our DHDragons and parents. Parents, if you could help us get your child's feedback we would appreciate it! We'll review all responses and consider input as we move forward. It would be appreciated if we could have as many responses as possible by July 10th! But we'll keep it open through July. Thank you!

*There is NO QUESTION... that summer reading and playing math games/ reviewing math facts over the summer is important to reduce natural summer regression of academic skills. Work to try to get your child(ren) to read! Keep a journal! Practice math facts! Play a board game! Anything... to help keep learning going over the summer months will be helpful. Reducing electronic use, getting outside for exercise and play and reading more are also great ways to MODEL for our kids and get involved with them! I know it's my personal challenge to myself as well!

Bringing back... Wiffle Ball "Tuesdays"...

Join me at Davis Hill on Tuesday, July 11 and July 18 between 5:00-5:45/ 6:00 if any of our DHDragons want to take some swings against me. All DHDragons welcome! In between swings DHDragons can play outside. Last year we played on the blacktop behind Gym/ Music and it worked out great!

While I am working quite a bit during July, it is highly recommended that if you plan on visiting the office that you email me and Mrs. Slavin at jay_norton@wrsd.net/ tara_slavin@wrsd.net to make sure that one of us will be in the office. Tara does not work the full summer and I do have some vacation time coming up so it is best to email ahead of time to make sure one of us will be in.

Please note that individual classroom teachers may have some additional requests for supplies in addition to the supplies listed (Classroom Placements are typically not made public until late August/ approximately one week prior to the school year beginning).

Summer reading is highly recommended for all DHDragons! While everyone needs some time away during the summer months, it is important to keep our DHDragons reading and/ or listening to stories/ books! The Gale Free Library is an amazing resource and I highly recommend scheduling time to bring your DHDragon to the library to select some cool summer reading material.
